CIS” legend Mark Harmon was all smiles as he stepped out with his wife of nearly four decades, actress Pam Dawber, for a sweet ice cream date in Los Angeles. In photos, the 73-year-old actor looked almost unrecognizable with his now completely white hair and eyebrows as he laughed and picked up a milkshake during the casual Sunday outing on August 24.
In photos, published by the US. Sun, Pam, also 73, joined her husband holding a soft-serve cone while sporting khaki cargo pants and a low bun. Meanwhile, Mark opted for a plaid button-down, navy shorts, and sneakers as he climbed into the driver’s seat of his truck. Harmon, who left his iconic “NCIS” role in 2021, has rarely been seen since then.
Mark Harmon Reflects on Leaving ‘NCIS’
After portraying Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs for 18 seasons, Harmon quietly left “NCIS” during season 19. Though fans have never stopped hoping for his return, the actor explained his decision in a 2024 interview with TVLine.
“It wasn’t so much a decision to leave, but the right timing to push away a little bit,” Harmon said. “I was thrilled with the storyline they came up with and how they handled the character. And the show continued on.”
When asked whether he would return for the eventual series finale, Harmon kept the door slightly open: “I don’t know. It’s really about feeling like you’re fulfilled with a role, or complete with a role.”
Despite stepping back from television, Harmon surprised audiences with a cameo in “Freakier Friday,” the upcoming sequel to “Freaky Friday” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. He reprised his role as Ryan, Tess’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) husband, which he first played in the 2003 Disney classic.
A Lasting Hollywood Love Story
While fans may miss Harmon on-screen, his love story with Pam Dawber remains one of Hollywood’s most enduring. The couple married in 1987 and share two sons—Sean, now an actor and stuntman, and Ty, a screenwriter.
Pam, best known for her iconic role opposite Robin Williams in “Mork & Mindy,” scaled back her career to focus on raising their family. But in 2021, she returned to television alongside her husband, appearing as journalist Marcie Warren in seven episodes of Harmon’s final season of “NCIS.”
For Harmon, family was always at the center of his career decisions. “The decision to do ‘NCIS’ is because I was traveling a lot doing movies and other things and I was trying to stay home more with a young family,” he told TVLine. “It was important to be able to make pancakes on Saturday morning.”
