‘Lucifer’ Star Tom Ellis Shares Thrilling News About CBS’s ‘FBI: CIA’

While we’re happy that it’s summertime, we can’t wait to get to the fall because that’s when all the best CBS shows return with new seasons. We’re talking The Neighborhood season 8, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2, Ghosts season 5, FBI season 8, NCIS season 23 and others.

We’re also looking forward to the new series that will be premiering. One of those shows is the FBI spinoff, CIA. After the cancellation of the previous two spinoffs, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, we’re in need of a new series to take their place. We’re hoping that CIA does the job. Fingers crossed!

We’re starting to learn more and more about this upcoming crime drama as well. In fact, series star Tom Ellis (LuciferTell Me Lies) recently spoke with TVLine in a new interview, sharing some juicy details about his character, including his name and personality, as well as additional information about the show’s plot.

We already know that Ellis will be playing a quick-witted, rebellious, unpredictable CIA case officer, and that he will be joined by another actor who will portray an experienced, sharp FBI agent dedicated to doing things by the book. Together, the mismatched pair will have to set aside their differences to tackle investigations and pursue threats on American soil, all while working out of the CIA’s New York Station.

Ellis shared with TVLine that his character’s name is Hart Hoxton. He explained that when viewers first meet his character, they find him stuck in the “boring” end of the job. In other words, he’s stuck working in New York, doing work that he finds dull or unexciting. Well, that’s all about to change when he’s forced to work with an FBI agent who couldn’t be any more different from him.

Ellis then goes on to describe his character as being cunning and deceptive, and whose sense of right and wrong isn’t clear-cut. Ellis points out that, despite being a productive team, his character and the FBI agent’s partnership is tough because they each have their own distinct philosophy on how to get things done.

“He is someone who has to use guile and deceit and lies to get what he wants. There’s a large dose of moral ambiguity that comes with him.” – Tom Eliis

This is going to be interesting to watch because I can already see these two characters bumping heads on various cases, but ultimately coming together in the end and effectively solving them. When it comes to what the show will be about, Ellis told TVLine that CIA will be modeled after the successful format of FBI and will examine why these agencies typically do not collaborate.

David Hudgins serves as the showrunner and executive producer of CIA. Also joining as executive producers are Dick Wolf, Nicole Perlman, David Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski. An official premiere date has not been announced yet, but new episodes are confirmed to start airing this fall on CBS on Mondays at 10/9c.
