Tracker star Fiona Rene addresses the possibility of a romance between Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw and her character. Tracker season 2 premieres Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. The first episode will examine Colter as he takes on a new case and delves into his father’s unknown past. But on a more personal level, there’s also the possibility of a romance between Colter and Reenie Greene. She often helps him out of sticky situations, leading to questions about whether their chemistry could develop into something more.
In an interview with Screen Rant’s Rachel Foertsch, Rene was asked if she’s trying to fill in the gaps in Reenie and Colter’s relationship because of some of the things that happened off-screen. The actress responded that she wasn’t given any more history between the two characters, explaining how that could be beneficial as an actress and giving insight into Colter’s perspective.
Rene was also asked to share her thoughts on whether Rene would actually want to be in a relationship with Colter, to which she jokingly replied, “I mean, I love him, but do you expect me to live in a trailer?” The actress also highlighted some fundamental differences between Rene and Colter that would make a relationship difficult: We know from season 1 that Reenie and Colter had some kind of physical or romantic relationship in the past. Because so much happens off-screen, are you given any more details that help you build that relationship?
No. It’s interesting that sometimes the actors are in the dark, and I think they do that on purpose, really, so that they have more room to grow and mature and play in the writers’ room. There will be times when they reach out to us and they’re like, “Hey, we’re thinking this and that,” but I think they let us play. What I see is that the Colter character is compared to any long-term relationship because Reenie thinks that he feels guilty about always being on the road and never being able to really be a good partner to someone, so he stays away from that dynamic. And I think, even though Reenie and Colter have this chemistry, not just playful or sexual, but really caring friendship chemistry, Reenie thinks that just scares him. And what’s the best way to do that, if not to accept someone as they are and be there for them? And I feel like that dynamic definitely made their relationship stronger. If the stars ever aligned and Colter wanted to settle down, is that what Reenie wanted? in a trailer? [Laughs] You know what I mean? I think there’s a lot of love there, but I also think she would never live on the road. You have two people who are so unapologetic that I can’t imagine it working out, but who knows?
Rene downplays the possibility of a romantic relationship between Colter and Reenie, at least in the near future of Tracker. That dovetails with the news that the hit CBS show is welcoming a new character, played by Floriana Lima. The former Supergirl actress is playing Camille Pickett. Described as attractive and obsessive, Camille has been Colter’s occasional love interest for at least a decade. They share a tragic past, bonded on the anniversary of her sister Camille’s disappearance.
