Television historians are buzzing over the recent discovery of an unused Sanford and Son script hidden in NBC’s archives for decades.
Dated 1976, the script outlines a plot in which Fred and Lamont accidentally purchase a crate of antique clocks at an auction — only to find one of them may be worth a small fortune. Predictably, chaos ensues as neighbors, collectors, and even a local reporter descend on the junkyard.
While the episode was never filmed, insiders speculate it may have been shelved due to scheduling conflicts late in the show’s run. The script’s writer credit belongs to Ray Jessel, a frequent sitcom contributor of the era.
NBC says they are considering performing a table read of the script during the upcoming anniversary celebrations, possibly with guest actors stepping into the roles of Fred and Lamont.
