While Fred Sanford got the biggest laughs, it was Demond Wilson as Lamont who held Sanford and Son together. As the patient, hard-working son constantly frustrated by his fatherâs schemes, Lamont became the emotional anchor of the show.
Wilson played Lamont with a perfect mix of exasperation and loyalty. Their dynamic echoed a classic comedy formula: the wild, over-the-top character and the straight man who reacts. In many ways, he represented a younger generation trying to navigate tradition, responsibility, and self-identity.
