Kunal Nayyar is taking full advantage of his time away from The Big Bang Theory with his current look today.
Kunal Nayyar, like the rest of the cast had a lot of rules to follow behind the scenes. Raj was based on a real person, however, Nayyar didn’t fake his accent, and that was his actual voice despite the confusion
In the following, we’re going to take a closer look at Kunal Nayyar’s time on The Big Bang Theory, particularly the rules he needed to follow behind the scenes. It seems like in his life post-sitcom, the actor is enjoying one rule he no longer needs to follow.
We’ll reveal what that is, while taking a look at his resume since he left the series. In addition, we’ll reveal which character instead opted to break a rule regarding their image and how Chuck Lorre freaked out over the decision.
The Big Bang Theory Had A No Beards Rules For The Male Cast
Prior to his stint on The Big Bang Theory, Kunal Nayyar was an actor trying to make it in Hollywood, just getting his career started. Let’s be honest, the actor did pretty well for himself, enjoying 12 seasons on a major sitcom like The Big Bang Theory. Ultimately, the actor was sad to leave the show, but understood it was time.
“Yeah, you know I often say for me, personally, ending Big Bang was like breaking up with the love of your life when you know nothing is wrong but it’s just time. That’s really what it felt like you know. I’m still processing what that entire journey was like. 279 episodes you know, I grew up on that show.”
Throughout the 12 seasons, Kunal and the rest of the cast had to follow several rules while on the show. One of them, was wearing a specific wardrobe. For Nayyar, that mean usually a top layer adding to his shirt underneath. This was done in order to give his character a kind of safety with the bigger shirt on top. Nayyar also had another rule he didn’t appreciate as much at the start of the series which was his inability to talk to women. Nayyar admits he would instantly look for those parts when he received the script and would get down given that he wasn’t able to contribute.
There was another rule the main cast took advantage of when the show wasn’t shooting and that is the no beards policy. Johnny Galecki and Kunal Nayyar in particular typically grew beards when production wrapped up. It seems like Nayyar is continuing with that trend during hos post Big Bang Theory life.
Kunal Nayyar Had A Full Beard In A Recent Instagram Post
Nayyar kept active with his career during 2021 and 2022, appearing in projects like Mira, Royal Detective, contributing with some voice over work. He also appeared in eight episodes of Suspicion. It also seems like the actor has upcoming projects as well, but nothing concrete yet for 2023.
For the time being, Nayyar is looking completely different to his days on The Big Bang Theory. Maybe this will avoid the actor from getting typecast? Nonetheless, Kunal is having fun these days, and he’s able to grow out a beard, without having the please Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady with his clean cut look. The actor has kept the beard for most of his time since The Big Bang Theory came to an end. His most recent pic on Instagram showcased the beard during a day on the golf course.
Although the male characters on the show were respectful of the image rules, the same didn’t hold true for another major star on the series.
Kaley Cuoco Once Broke The Appearance Rule And Chuck Lorre Feared It Would Hurt The Ratings
During her time away from the show shooting an indie film, Kaley Cuoco took a major risk by cutting her hair short. Chuck Lorre and the rest of the cast weren’t told, and it would lead to some panic from the show’s creator.
He explained why the decision made him a little nervous, “We didn’t have a heads-up on the haircut! When you think back on it, it was startling. I wish we had been in the loop. Had she come to me, I would have told her how the ratings dropped on Dharma & Greg when Jenna Elfman did the same thing. And they dropped on Felicity as well.”
Lorre continues, “The audience had become infatuated with the character, and not just the character’s behavior and flaws and strengths, but in how the character looked.”
Looking back, Cuoco also regretted the decision. The actress felt as though it would lead to less time in the makeup chair before an episode but instead, it was the complete opposite. Kaley definitely would’ve done things differently looking back at the shocking moment.
