He is going to attend but doesn’t want Chanel to go with him. She is simply glad he has been exonerated. Chanel heads out to check on the bakery when she meets EJ at the door. Johnny says he is good, and Chanel exits.
EJ tells Johnny he knows from a reliable source the jury was going to find him not guilty. EJ says they came to that decision because he did everything in his power to exonerate him. He notes Johnny crucified him for being deceitful, but it was his vigorous defense which saved him. Johnny can’t believe his father came all the way over there to say I told you so. He says he had no problem with his father creating reasonable doubt but couldn’t take blindsiding his Aunt Belle and destroying his wife on the stand. EJ can’t believe his son is simply going to cut him out of his life again. Johnny says he loves his father but can’t have him in his life, not now nor ever. Johnny asks his father doesn’t attend Kristen’s sentencing hearing.
Marlena and John’s Penthouse: Belle arrives home to find Brady working away. She ran over to get him a breakfast burrito at the pub as he needs comfort because his son went to college and his daughter is starting school. Brady notes Kristen’s sentencing hearing and doesn’t know how she’s going to tell his daughter about how long she’s going to be separated from her mother.
Brady says Rachel doesn’t know her mother is getting sentenced today as he didn’t want to disrupt her first day of school. They chat a bit about Tate when Marlena emerges from her bedroom.
Brady makes his exit and Marlena wonders if Belle would go easy on Kristen at the sentencing hearing for Rachel’s sake. Belle says it’s the plan as the family has suffered enough. That being said, she can’t believe Kristen put Rachel through all kinds of hell. With that, Marlena shuts her daughter down.
Belle asks if her mother is ok and Marlena says she’s on edge from lack of sleep. Belle brings up Kristen again and says how all this drama could have been avoided had she confessed to begin with. She goes back to her hypnosis sessions with EJ and mentions who the shooter was. She wonders if her mother knew Kristen was the shooter and Marlena does her best to be evasive. She says Kristen deserves credit for not letting Johnny go to prison. Belle pulls her mother in saying she knows she would never have let her grandson go to prison.
Titan/DiMera: Gabi listens in and learns about Philip’s fraud. Xander says he wants to put the fake letter to rest by officially making him co-CEO. Philip says he is already in that position but Xander says it isn’t real. He wants to take Stephanie’s advice and draw up papers to give him equal claim to the company. Philip oddly says thanks but no thanks as he knows he should never have used the fraudulent letter to begin with and wants to walk away. Xander calls him an idiot and Philip says that’s why he is walking away. Philip begins to eat Xander’s candy as they continue discuss the state of the company. Just then, Philip begins to choke.
Xander immediately goes behind Philip to perform the Heimlich maneuver and saves him from choking. Gabi declares Philip is guilty of fraud and not a legitimate heir to Titan. Tony is thrilled to learn the deal can be undone and DiMera can be back in family hands. He wonders how she got the recording and Gabi admits she planted a bug. Tony says their next move is to simply do nothing.
Marlena and John’s Penthouse: EJ arrives and asks Marlena about protecting Rachel and trusts she will continue to keep her word about not telling anyone the truth. Marlena says she promised Kristen to keep quiet and will keep quiet, even from Brady. EJ appreciates her discretion. Marlena simply wishes Kristen wouldn’t have been punished for something she didn’t do. EJ agrees saying he wished he’d known the verdict was going to be not guilty, which stuns Marlena.
Courthouse: Johnny arrives, and the judge calls the sentencing hearing to order (why is he there?). The judge asks Kristen if she is not retaining council. She says she is and the judge finds her guilty. Kristen says she doesn’t wish to change her plea, and the judge goes to Belle, who tries to go light on the accused. The judge goes to Johnny to make a statement. He says he is disappointed by his aunt’s initial actions, but he is in favor of a lighter sentence. The judge pulls out a letter sent from EJ as the victim. He implores the court to hand down a lesser sentence to keep Rachel from being separated from her mother for an extended period of time. Belle tries to stop Brady but he wants an opportunity to speak. The judge allows Brady to proceed and he says he wants to advocate for his daughter and says he is pushing for the maximum sentence for Kristen. He knows it will be hard for his daughter, but it will protect her from being exposed to such a horrifyingly, violent woman. Kristen stands up and says the only reason she is confessing is for Rachel. The judge allows Kristen to continue and she says the only reason she confessed was for her daughter. She wanted to teach her daughter to take responsibility for her actions. Kristen says she would do anything to go back and make other choices. She looks at Johnny and says how sorry she is he had to go through everything she did. Kristen hopes making herself accountable will help them put everything behind them.
The judge asks if there is anything else. She notes the maximum in the case is ten years and the people have recommended three. She notes Brady’s statement and decides to sentence Kristen to six years in Statesville. Brady’s self-righteous behind is very pleased.

Gabi agrees to keep the information under wraps for now but notes he needs to hold up his end of the bargain. Tony slyly says he will be in touch and Gabi exits.
Philip can’t believe Xander would willingly shift the balance of power by making him officially co-CEO. Xander is willing to take the chance but oddly his pen doesn’t work. He unscrews the top and Gabi’s bug falls out.
