Kara Killmer’s transformation from childhood to the Chicago Fire

From arriving in Hollywood from West Texas as a young, inexperienced actress, to her starring role in “Chicago Fire” playing paramedic Sylvie Brett, Kara Killmer has proven the adage that when you want something sincere enough that no dream is out of your reach.

As the founding series of producer Dick Wolf’s current three-show “One Chicago” slate, “Chicago Fire” laid the foundation for what would become one of the most successful procedural series on television. Airing Wednesday nights on NBC, all three shows drew enviable ratings for the network, with “Fire” continuing to be one of the most popular scripted dramas (via TVSeriesFinale .com).

As Paramedic in Charge Sylvie Brett, Killmer joins an elite emergency rescue team that includes ambulance chief Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), firefighter Stella Kidd (Monica Rae Mayo), former captain Mathew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and others. Since joining up with his teammates in the series’ third season in 2014, Killmer has secured his place as a true fan favorite on the show.

All that said, now is a great time to look back at the remarkable changes Killmer saw in her life during Texas’ journey to becoming a major star on the hit television series “Chicago Fire”.

After graduating from college, her first gig was a web reality TV show

Born in Crowley, Texas in 1988, Kara Killmer attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas and studied theater before graduating from the school with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts in 1988. 2010 (via The Stanford Daily).

That same year, Killmer would make the transition from a hopeful graduate student to an even more aspiring actress when she made the trip from West Texas to Los Angeles. There, she found her introduction to the entertainment industry when she was cast in the Hulu reality web series “If I Can Dream” (via IMDb).

One of several young would-be actors just starting to attempt to forge a career in Hollywood, Killmer moved into the show’s “Dream House” in Los Angeles with the other young nominees. On the show, they all live with 60 trained home cameras almost 24/7 and also share a generic Ford Fiesta equipped with even more cameras.

When asked about the experience and the apparent lack of privacy such a show entails, Killmer told Entertainment Weekly that being away from the housemates was challenging, summing up the situation by admitting that “…this is the worst place to hide.” and find.”

She cut her hair in sections and let it down like Rapunzel

After working on the short-lived web series “If I Can Dream” for a single season, Kara Killmer began the next phase of her Hollywood career, playing mainly smaller television roles. In 2011, she starred as the Rapunzel-haired heroine in Discovery’s “Scary Tales,” a series that promised to show viewers the dark and scary side of famous fairy tales (via IMDb ).

Over the next few years, Killmer would take on smaller roles in television series including as Blonde in “Jane by Design” and as Sandra in “Rosa the Imposer.” She also expanded her resume to include the short films “Ruins” and “Joke.”

Then, in 2013, Killmer landed his first role in a made-for-TV movie in the USA Network series “Horizon.” Produced by Gale Anne Hurd, the sci-fi/WWII crossover will feature Killmer as the character Anna Weber alongside Cary Elwes and Ruth Bradley (via IMDb).

She took a leap of faith and met her future husband

There’s no doubt that Kara Killmer remembers 2014 and 2015 as two of the most important years in her professional life – and in the more intimate world of her personal relationships.

As most “One Chicago” fans know, Killmer first joined the Firehouse 51 team on “Chicago Fire” in 2014, which was a big deal for her. But next year will see another milestone for the actress as she lands her first leading role in a movie. Playing the fiery Charlotte Holloway in the Revolutionary War film “Beyond the Mask,” Killmer will appear on screen alongside another young actor, the film’s leading man, Andrew Cheney. And as fate would have it, Killmer and Cheney would later tie the knot and tie the knot in 2016 (according to IMDb).

Kara Killmer has been in action in all four Chi-verse shows

As the dedicated, resourceful Sylvie Brett on “Chicago Fire,” Kara Killmer went to the rescue of Chi-town residents on Ambulance 61 in a remarkable 160-plus episodes (according to IMDb). And while longtime viewers are certainly familiar with her courageous exploits on the high-intensity show, Killmer has also spent quite a bit of time on screen following “Chicago P.D.” sister series “One Chicago” and “Chicago Med.”

Of course, this is made possible by the Chi-verse phenomenon of crossover events. By sharing the cast and storylines of all three series within producer Dick Wolf’s “One Chicago” empire, fans will enjoy a mix of character interactions and storylines. In this regard, Killmer visited the Emergency Department team on “Chicago Med” for a total of 17 episodes, meeting with detectives and beating up the cops of “Chicago P.D.” for 10 seasons and even featured the short-lived “Chicago Justice” in a single episode.

So from the flatlands of West Texas and stage work at Baylor University, to supporting roles, film work and recurring roles on network television, it was a quick rise and a a real transformation for Kara Killmer from childhood to stardom in “Chicago.” Fire” and the rest of the “One Chicago” universe.
