The hit CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, catapulted its cast, such as Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco, to global fame. However, despite the show’s immense success, it can’t be denied that not everyone embraced its nerdy themes.
When Cuoco encountered one such critique during her appearance on the Netflix show, The Cabin with Bert Kreischer, the actress got visibly uncomfortable while struggling to defend one of the most successful projects of her career.
Kaley Cuoco’s Awkward Encounter with The Big Bang Theory Criticism
In 2020, Kaley Cuoco joined the Netflix show The Cabin with Bert Kreischer alongside Joel McHale and comedian Ms Pat. And what transpired further in their discussion did not seem a very pleasing experience for the actress.
One of the guests on the show, comedian Ms. Pat did not recognize the Emmy-nominated actress. However, the Community star Joel McHale offered his assistance, telling her about the CBS sitcom Cuoco starred in, and calling it “the most popular comedy of all time.”
The Flight Attendant star jokingly offered to send DVDs of the show for Ms. Pat to binge-watch the sitcom. However, the comedian was simply not interested, as she told her, “I can’t watch; it’s too nerdy. It’s too smart.”
She also shared that she did understand the humor in the show while stating that she found it corny. “I’m not dumb. It’s just, It’s corny, I can’t get into it,” she said before adding, “I don’t get the jokes.” The comedian did not stop there, as she also expressed skepticism regarding the high salaries of the cast members.
I remember when y’all started a million dollars an episode and I was like, ‘Who the f**k is watching this show to pay these people a million dollars an episode?’
Kaley Cuoco, who portrayed Penny throughout 12 seasons of the show, attempted to respond to Ms. Pat’s criticism. And the show host joined Ms. Pat in her criticism, saying, “It’s corny,” added to the challenge. Cuoco assured that she was fine with her not watching the show. However, unable to counter her, she awkwardly sank into her chair.
Kaley Cuoco Did Not Have a Good Time on Bert Kreischer’s Show
Ms. Pat’s views on the sitcom and her directness with Kaley Cuoco did not sit well with many fans, resulting in a backlash against the comedian. Bert Kreischer later discussed the awkward interaction between Cuoco and Ms. Pat on his podcast, Bertcast.
Joined by Ms. Pat and his wife LeeAnn Kreischer, the comedian shared that he later realized that he could have better navigated the conversation between his guests. Kreischer also expressed disappointment on learning that Cuoco regretted joining his Netflix show.
It bums me out that she did not have a good time. It bums me out that she regretted it. It bums me out that she’s been fairly vocal to a few enough important people that it’s come back to me how much she hated that experience… because I know, that was never my intention.
Despite their previous interaction, Ms. Pat praised Cuoco, saying, “She was a nice girl.” She also recalled a conversation with her husband after the episode aired, who also told her about the show and the actress.
The Ms. Pat Show star clarified that she doesn’t watch those shows or movies while emphasizing that she was not trying to be rude, as she acknowledged Cuoco as a nice and beautiful person.
