Kaley Cuoco Expresses Willingness to Return as Penny in The Big Bang Theory

Kaley Cuoco is open to the idea of reprising her beloved role as Penny from The Big Bang Theory, reflecting on her time in the iconic sitcom as “some of the best years of [her] life.”

The actress, now 38, starred in the CBS series from its premiere in 2007 until its conclusion in 2019. Cuoco acknowledges the significant impact the role had on her career, stating, “I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”

When asked if she would consider reprising Penny, Cuoco responded enthusiastically, “I would absolutely reprise that role. 100%.” Her love for the character remains strong, as she adds, “I love that character, and I always will.”

The Big Bang Theory followed a group of science-loving friends navigating life in California and earned a remarkable 10 Emmy Awards during its run. Alongside Cuoco, the series featured stars like Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Johnny Galecki.

Since the original show wrapped, the franchise has expanded with various spin-offs. A prequel series, Young Sheldon, debuted in 2017 and wrapped up earlier this year, featuring Iain Armitage as a younger version of Sheldon Cooper, with Parsons narrating the series. Following that, Young Sheldon gave rise to another spin-off titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which premiered on October 17. There’s also a new Big Bang Theory spinoff in the works featuring Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus, adding to the excitement for fans of the original series.

Cuoco is also busy with new projects, including the upcoming Season 2 of her Peacock series, Based on a True Story. The show follows a realtor, a former tennis star, and a plumber who seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America’s obsession with true crime. Cuoco expressed her excitement for the new season, saying, “I am so excited about it. We had such a great time shooting Season 1, and I think that we made an even better Season 2.”

Describing the new season, she added, “It’s very funny. It’s very dark… and I’m thrilled.”

For those wanting to relive the laughter, The Big Bang Theory is currently available to stream on Max, while Based on a True Story Season 2 will premiere on Peacock on November 21.
