Justin Hartley Teases Jensen Ackles’ Thrilling Return to ‘Tracker’ Season 2

Justin Hartley Teases Jensen Ackles’ Thrilling Return to ‘Tracker’ Season 2

Tracker has been a surprise hit on the 2024 schedule, and CBS didn’t miss the opportunity when it decided to bring the show back earlier than expected this fall. With Justin Hartley in the lead role, season 2 promises to heat up the picture when he reunites with Jensen Ackles, a guest star from season 1 and also a former Supernatural cast member, in the first episode of the new season. This return not only tries to thicken the story of the Shaw family secrets but also brings many new shocks to the audience.

Jensen Ackles first appeared in Tracker with a lot of hidden meanings for Supernatural fans and gave some answers to Justin Hartley’s character Colter. Russell’s ideas were related to their father’s death, but it was eventually discovered that he had no business doing that. But the truth comes with another surprise: Dory, their older sister, may know more than she let on when Melissa Roxburgh first appeared in the role.

Tracker's Justin Hartley Reveals Intriguing Details About The Role Jensen Ackles' Russell Will Play In Season 2

In an interview with TV Insider, Hartley revealed Ackles’ return and Russell’s important role in the new season: “It’s more about family. At the end of the last season, Colter still has a lot of questions. He doesn’t even know who he can trust anymore. At first, he thinks his brother had something to do with his father’s death, but then he realizes, wait, maybe he didn’t. And why is Dory hiding everything?”

Dory, initially seen as the only Shaw child who is more normal and stable than Russell and Colter, turns out to be not quite that. The answer to that question may come sooner than expected, as Ackles returns to Hartley’s side in the second episode of season 2. But this is Tracker, where every answer is accompanied by a new set of questions. Hartley continued: “Russell comes back and Colter has a few questions for him about Dory and the box she has, and does Russell know where it is? Russell is another hero in episode 2 when they email a dark service, like, anything goes. And then the government officials suddenly start asking about our dad, and you’re like, ‘What’s going on?’ So in each episode, the dad figure can either become more and more vindicated, or he can go completely insane. We’re going to explore that more deeply.”

Hartley also said that Melissa Roxburgh could return, as filming on her new series will wrap before Tracker season 2 is complete. Additionally, Jennifer Morrison will return as director for episode 6, and it’s possible that her character from the season 1 finale will also appear at some point.

Many were probably worried that Jensen Ackles wouldn’t be able to return as Russell, believing he would be joining a new series of The Boys. But thankfully, that didn’t happen. Tracker will, however, lose a major cast member in season 2, as Teddi, played by Robin Weigert, will not be returning. How Teddi’s disappearance will be resolved remains a mystery.

With Tracker season 2 still a few weeks away, fans are in a bit of a wait-and-see situation. The first episode since the season 1 finale will air on CBS on Sunday, October 13, at 8 p.m. ET. At least that’s still ahead of the planned late-October premiere and ahead of many other CBS series, including NCIS and FBI.

Tracker season 2 promises to be a mystery-filled affair with many new secrets revealed, bringing with it some suspenseful moments and top-notch action. Get ready to follow the story of the Shaw family and its unsolved mysteries.
