Josh Lucas (Aka Young John Dutton) Shares Huge ‘Yellowstone’ News
Fans have waited a long time for this!
It’s the sad truth that no one knows whether or not Kevin Costner will be coming back to finish up his part on Yellowstone’s final episodes. Even so, that doesn’t mean that the story of John Dutton would be completely over. In fact, the leader of the Dutton Ranch could be making an appearance after all… with or without Kevin!
Josh Lucas, the actor responsible for playing the young version of John Dutton in flashbacks, shared some promising words at a recent premiere event for a new Apple TV+ series, Palm Royale.
Speaking to Deadline on the red-carpet, Josh brought up a conversation he had with showrunner, Taylor Sheridan.
“I did text Taylor a couple of months back and said, ‘hey man, I’ve loved working on the show so much. He’s like, ‘well we’ll be back,” Josh said.

Okay, that’s definitely something to look forward to!
Josh also hinted that Yellowstone season 5 part 2 could have an extended episode count, stating, “I think we’re going to do 10 or so more episodes and wrap up the story.”
With 8 episodes in first half of season 5 and a potential 10 more coming out of the latter half, that would make a total of at least 18 episodes! (Aka, Yellowstone’s longest season yet!)
Adding on to the excitement of it all: Josh also recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight and touched on the subject of him starring in a potential spinoff. (No news on if this has ever been confirmed.)
“Man, from your lips to God’s ears. I would love it,” Josh told the outlet. “I mean, obviously I love the world Taylor has created. I love seeing the generational aspect, the time aspect, obviously the 1800s on. So yeah, I would be there in a second.”
Honestly, any Yellowstone fan would probably love this idea!
As of right now, Yellowstone season 5 is set to return in November 2024. (Almost two years after the premiere of part 1.) There are also two more Yellowstone spinoffs in the works, 1944 and 2024—neither of which have any confirmed details.
