Joe Minoso Jokes About Steven Weber as One Chicago Gears Up for Explosive Crossover

As excitement builds for NBC’s highly anticipated One Chicago crossover event, the stars of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD are sharing their thoughts—and a bit of humor—about working together. Joe Minoso, who has portrayed Joe Cruz on Chicago Fire since its debut, recently threw some lighthearted shade at Chicago Med actor Steven Weber, sparking laughter and a bit of buzz among fans.

Friendly Fire Between Co-Stars

In an interview with ScreenRant, Minoso joked about his experience working with Weber, who has played Dr. Dean Archer on Chicago Med since Season 7. “I was so excited to work with Steven Weber, and then I did, and it was a real disappointment,” Minoso quipped. He quickly clarified that his comment was all in good fun. “That’s a joke. Please don’t take that seriously. [Laughs] I think at this point, with the exception of some of the newer people on Med who came in this season, I’ve had the pleasure of working with pretty much everybody on all three shows.”

This lighthearted exchange highlights the camaraderie among the cast members, many of whom have worked together across the One Chicago franchise for years.

What to Expect from the Crossover

The upcoming crossover, titled “In the Trenches,” marks the first three-show collaboration since October 2019. The event will showcase the teams from Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD joining forces to tackle a catastrophic gas explosion that devastates a high-rise. According to NBC’s official synopsis, the explosion sets off a desperate race to rescue hundreds of civilians, including 40 individuals trapped underground—two of whom are their own.

Steven Weber described the event as a blockbuster experience akin to “Avengers: Endgame.” In an interview with Collider, he said, “This crossover is like the audience going to a One Chicago amusement park. Everyone is involved, and it’s nonstop action. The audience is going to be screaming. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Cruz’s Storyline Finds Its Conclusion

For Minoso’s Joe Cruz, the crossover will serve as the culmination of his character’s current storyline on Chicago Fire. The arc revolves around Cruz’s involvement with Junior, the cousin of Flanco—a gang leader tied to Cruz’s brother Leon back in Season 1. After making a fateful decision to leave Flanco to die in a fire, Cruz now finds himself entangled in a web of complications stemming from that moment.

Minoso teased the consequences of Cruz’s choices, revealing that Episode 10 will show him grappling with the fallout. “Cruz is, and always will be, concerned about protecting his family first and foremost, and he will go to any lengths to do that,” Minoso explained. “Unfortunately, he’s going to get tangled up in a big old mess. Let’s hope he comes out the other side of it. I will say it will not be unscathed.”

Minoso also confirmed that the storyline will largely conclude before the crossover but may still ripple into the larger event. Fans can expect intense drama, tough decisions, and emotional stakes as Cruz’s journey unfolds.

An Unmissable Event

With its mix of heart-pounding action and emotional storytelling, “In the Trenches” promises to be one of the most thrilling episodes in One Chicago history. As Weber noted, the sheer scale of the crossover, coupled with the talents of the cast, guarantees a viewing experience fans won’t soon forget.
