Fans fell in love with Joan Vassos during her time on Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor, and now she’s back as the lead on The Golden Bachelorette. Joan’s charm first shone through when she participated in a group talent show, where she performed an original poem about her nervousness meeting Gerry Turner, The Golden Bachelor himself.
Now, one year later, the tables have turned, as Joan watches a new group of men perform their talents for her. To mark the anniversary of her memorable performance, Joan shared another poem, reflecting on her journey and that original experience.
In a social media post, Joan explained her inspiration for writing again: “In honor of the one-year anniversary of the Golden Bachelor talent show, and to hold myself accountable for continuing to do things that scare me, I wanted to share a new poem I wrote…”
Her latest poem begins with a look back at that talent show from a year ago:
“One year ago today, the Golden Bachelor said we’d perform in a talent show. I looked around the mansion to hide, but there was no safe place to go. But being on stage with no talent to boast led me to write a poem about what scared me the most.”
She humorously recalled titling her first poem “I Just Hope I Don’t Vomit on Your Shoes,” as she admitted feeling terrified stepping out of the limo and meeting Gerry for the first time. Joan shared how she needed “two vodka drinks” just to get on stage, and without her reading glasses, struggled through her lines.
Still, despite her nerves and mistakes, she was given the win that night by Gerry, who loved her authentic performance. Now, Joan finds herself in a new position—hosting a talent show for the men competing for her heart, and feeling that same nervous energy as she watches them showcase their skills.
In her poem, she reflected on the men’s performances:
“But I soon find out how funny, talented, and brave they are. From yoyos to karate, comedy, and ribbon routines, they are all stars. Because in the end, it doesn’t matter what you do, this date is about whether someone is willing to have some fun with you.”
Joan closed her poem with an empowering message, emphasizing the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone:
“So maybe my poem for this year has an underlying lesson to live by. Doing things that scare you the most will help you to reach places as high as the sky.”
Her playful and encouraging words reflect the spirit of her journey on The Golden Bachelorette, where vulnerability and facing fears have been key themes. Joan continues to inspire viewers, reminding them to embrace the challenges that life throws their way.
Fans can keep up with Joan’s adventure every Wednesday on ABC’s The Golden Bachelorette or stream it later on Hulu.
