A new ‘The Golden Bachelorette’ promo illustrates how important Joan’s family is to her. They offered her up dating advice ahead of the competition’s premiere.
The Golden Bachelorette is inching closer to its premiere date. Fans are already well acquainted with the show’s lead, Joan Vassos, but a new promo introduces her family to the world. They are offering up some advice for Vassos as she embarks on a journey to find her next great love. The Golden Bachelorette promo takes place around Joan Vassos’ dinner table.
‘The Golden Bachelorette’ promo features Joan Vassos’ family
Joan Vassos clearly takes family seriously. The mother of four even looks to her kids and extended family for dating advice. In the show’s new promo, Vassos quizzes her family about how she should conduct herself in the competition. She even asks the family if they have any questions she should ask her prospective suitors. They did not disappoint with their answers.
Vassos’ son, Nick Vassos, suggested his mother ask the men she dates about their three biggest priorities in life. The question is certainly a good one and can help Vassos figure out whether the men she is meeting are compatible with her long-term. A man who understands her dedication to her kids and the life she’s built in Maryland would be a good fit.
Vassos’ mother-in-law was also included in the promo, and she offered advice. She suggested the 61-year-old ask the contestants if they enjoy traveling. Vassos’ grandson also pitched in with his own question. He told his grandmother that she should inquire about her suitors’ favorite dinosaurs.
How did Joan end up as ‘The Golden Bachelorette’?
Joan Vassos was married to John Vassos for more than 30 years before he died of pancreatic cancer in 2021. According to his obituary, he fought the disease for two years before his death. He was 59. Vassos opened up about John’s death during her time on The Golden Bachelor.
More recently, she revealed that after her husband’s death, she considered dating but didn’t know where to start. Vassos noted that all her friends were married, and it was difficult to find eligible bachelors. She revealed that she returned home from dinner with a friend and saw the casting call for The Golden Bachelor. She took it as a sign and filled out the application.
Vassos was selected for the series and appeared before she self-eliminated. She left the show to deal with a family emergency. While the production team asked her to return to the competition, she didn’t feel comfortable leaving her family again at the time. She opted not to head back to California. Vassos believed the story would end there, but that was not the case. ABC selected her as the first-ever golden bachelor. The network announced her casting several months ago. She filmed her season in June and July.
In many ways, her journey just started. Joan Vassos’ season of The Golden Bachelorette premieres on Sept. 18.
