Jim Parsons is opening up about his decision to come out publicly while starring on one of television’s biggest comedies.
Speaking on David Tennant’s podcast in 2020, the Big Bang Theory star revealed he once worried the media attention surrounding his sexuality could impact the hit series.
“I was scared that it might cause trouble, quote unquote, for our big television show,” Parsons said.
His public coming-out moment happened during a New York Times interview about The Normal Heart, when he confirmed the role was especially meaningful to him as a gay actor.
Although the experience felt uncertain at the time, Parsons now says he views it very differently.
“Not only has it not been a bad thing,” he shared, “it’s been a great thing for me.”
