The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons answered a reporter the way Sheldon Cooper would do.
Jim Parsons rose to fame for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory and it’s no wonder he became synonymous with the character. Much like in real life, the actor and the character share the same interesting quirks as well as the way they express unfiltered thoughts.
The television character is a known genius who has a taste for blunt confrontations, and in some of Parsons’ interviews, this trait seemingly comes out. In fact, in some of his conversations with media people, fans could not help but see Cooper instead of Parsons.
Jim Parsons Responds To A Reporter’s Question The Sheldon Cooper Way
While attending an event during the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, actor Jim Parsons answered a personal query from a reporter with so much frankness. He was asked to share the best day of his life to which he responded (via YouTube):
Best day of my life? Holy s—t. Oh my god. Tonight! No. The first thing that comes to mind? Oh my god in heaven. This is why I have a publicist. Why haven’t you stopped this? Best night of my life, well, I guess it was – Jesus, of all the things you never thought you’d disclose to the media.
At this point, he’s already channeling his inner Sheldon Cooper as the press people laughed at his blunt replies. The actor genuinely looked surprised by the question because it was indeed a personal one, although he tried to be as amusing as possible.
Finally, he came up with a fantastic answer, but made sure to sandwich it with striking remarks one after another:
Oh god, I hate you, people. I guess it was the night that I was set up on a blind date with Todd because that has really stuck for 12 years now, and that has made all the difference in my life more than anything I can name. Are you gonna get me off the stage yet? Jesus. So, this is my people profile.
Parsons’ way of responding to the media is typical of Sheldon Cooper. The character notably speaks his mind without filter so the audience always gets the most honest words from him.
Jim Parsons On Sheldon Cooper’s Unfiltered Thoughts
In an interview with Fresh Air via NPR, Parsons discussed Sheldon Cooper’s lack of understanding when it comes to people’s emotions.
The actor said his on-screen figure is not built to think in a way that goes: “Oh dear, I don’t want to hurt their feelings.” In fact, the lack of it is one of the keys to his character.
He says things all the time that could hurt someone’s feelings. He doesn’t check it through a filter and go, ‘Oh, they’ll be fine with this.’ He skips that barrier completely. He just says it.
Parsons’ real-life interactions with media sometimes give people flashbacks of scenes from The Big Bang Theory because he is so alike Sheldon Cooper. We can’t blame him though – he played the role for 12 years!
