Jim Parsons, who gained acclaim and popularity for his portrayal of genius Sheldon Cooper in the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, shared exactly what had to happen for him to reprise the character in a sequel series or movie.
While speaking with E! News at the Drama League Awards, Parsons was asked about his iconic role as he discussed the end of the spinoff series Young Sheldon. In the show, Iain Armitage portrays a child version of Sheldon, and Parsons reprises his role for a short appearance in the finale that aired on May 16.
But then the interviewer asked him a very important question, wondering, “What would it take to get you to do a sequel? Because we love Sheldon!”
Parsons’ response? “Reincarnation.”
Although the interviewer initially took the response as a negative, Parsons jumped in to clarify, saying, “Never say never to anything. Life is long, God willing. But, I don’t think so…”
Unfortunately for Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory fans, it doesn’t seem like there will be a sequel series or film in the near future. But based on what Parsons said, there’s still room for hope!
In the comments on YouTube, many fans seemed to understand Parsons’ opinion but still wished for a different answer, with one writing, “I respect Jim’s decision, but I hope he will change his mind. We LOVE Sheldon!”
“Honestly a movie wouldn’t be a bad alternative instead of doing a full fledged sequel series,” suggested another fan.
While The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are now over, fans of the TV universe still have something to look forward to, as a new spinoff called Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is on the way.
It will focus on the characters of Georgie Cooper Jr. and Mandy McAllister, played by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, respectively. The show is expected to premiere on CBS this fall.
