Jesse Williams Returns to Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Jackson Avery

Welcome back, Dr. Jackson Avery!

A new promo for the Oct. 30 episode, titled “Goodbye Horses,” of Grey’s Anatomy shows Jesse Williams’ Dr. Avery being greeted by the Grey Sloan staff — seemingly the whole staff, to his embarrassment.

Williams, who left the show after season 17 as a series regular in 2020, has guest-starred three times since then. Episode 4 of season 22 will mark his fourth guest appearance on the show.

In his last appearance, on the season 21 premiere, Dr. Avery had some stern words for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) about his fiery mom, Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen), as well as their Fox Foundation and Meredith’s unauthorized use of funds for her Alzheimer’s research.

The logline for “Goodbye Horses” reads, “The interns juggle a bizarre trauma, while a complex breast reconstruction forces Meredith into a tense partnership,” leaving Jackson’s appearance a mystery.
