Jesse Spencer’s First Post-Chicago Fire Project Makes Losing Matt Casey Less Painful

Jesse Spencer’s First Post-Chicago Fire Project Makes Losing Matt Casey Less Painful
Chicago Fire lost one of its main stars, Jesse Spencer, when he left the show in season 10, and while losing his character was painful, the actor’s next project could make up for the pain. The NBC procedural drama will enter its thirteenth season in late 2024 and has lost a lot of actors and actresses over its 12-year run. With any series that lasts that long, the cast is bound to change. Spencer himself was part of the original Chicago Fire cast when he began playing Matt Casey in the pilot episode in October 2012. Casey started as a lieutenant and captain of Truck 81 on Chicago Fire before being promoted to captain in season 6. Throughout his time on the NBC show, Casey has had his fair share of ups and downs. He got married, divorced, and married again. However, it was easy to sympathize with Spencer’s character and fall in love with Casey from the start of Chicago Fire. As a result, Spencer’s departure left many heartbroken, even though the actor made guest appearances in parts of seasons 11 and 12. Now, Casey appears to be gone for good, and Spencer has moved on to his next series.

Jesse Spencer will play Tony Bissett in Last Days of the Space Age, an Australian drama that serves as the actor’s first post-Chicago Fire project. According to TVLine, the Hulu limited series is set in Perth, Western Australia, in 1979. The story of Last Days of the Space Age revolves around three families (one of whom features Spencer’s patriarch) living in Perth when the first American space station, Skylab, crashes just outside the city. At the same time, Perth is hosting the Miss Universe pageant and a power strike is taking place.
Not much is known about Spencer’s character Tony, but the actor is said to be leading the cast of Last Days of the Space Age. Radha Mitchell plays Tony’s wife, Judy Bissett, in the Australian drama, while other cast members include Iain Glen, George Mason, Vico Thai, Ines English, and Jacek Koman. Fans can learn more about Spencer’s role after Chicago Fire when all eight episodes of Last Days of the Space Age premiere on Hulu on Wednesday, October 2. While it’s still sad that Jesse Spencer isn’t part of the main cast of Chicago Fire season 13, his next project is exciting and fits right in with his goals after leaving. Spencer has previously explained that he left the NBC procedural because he wanted to move back to Australia, where he was born and raised. So it makes sense that Spencer’s first post-Chicago Fire series would be Last Days of the Space Age, an Australian drama that was filmed in various parts of Australia. Spencer is making good on his promise after leaving Chicago Fire, which makes Matt Casey’s departure a little more palatable. The actor has starred in Australian-made projects like Last Days of the Space Age. Meanwhile, Chicago PD actor Jesse Lee Soffer left the series to start over, only to return to the Dick Wolf show FBI: International two years later. So at least Spencer is venturing out of the world of NBC procedurals and Chicago Fire, and that helps make Last Days of the Space Age seem like it’s going to be a good one.
