Jesse Lee Soffer is stepping into a new role in the Dick Wolf universe, shedding his Detective Jay Halstead persona from Chicago P.D.. Soffer has secured a series regular spot in Season 4 of FBI: International, airing on CBS. After ten seasons on NBC’s ‘Chicago P.D.’, Soffer exited the show in 2022.
Soffer will be taking over from Luke Kleintank, who portrayed Scott Forrester since the show’s debut and left near the end of Season 3. The series will also continue to feature Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, Christina Wolfe, and Eva-Jane Willis.
The announcement took many by surprise, as fans had anticipated
Halstead’s potential return to ‘Chicago P.D.’. This possibility seemed feasible since the character left for an Army job in Bolivia with an open-ended storyline. During an interview with Variety, Soffer shared,
I still love Halstead. Halstead’s always going to be in my blood. That’s never going to change.
An Ever Expanding Universe
‘FBI: International’ marks the ninth installment in the enduring Wolf/Universal franchise. The journey began with ‘Law & Order’, expanding into ‘Special Victims Unit’ and ‘Organized Crime’. Subsequently, it evolved into the ‘One Chicago’ universe with shows like ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago P.D.’, and ‘Chicago Med’. In 2018, CBS introduced ‘FBI’, which later spawned ‘Most Wanted’ and ‘International’.
The Journey Continues Across the Globe
‘FBI: International’ follows the FBI’s International Fly Team throughout Europe. It’s produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, collaborating with CBS Studios. The executive production team includes notable names: Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Michael Katleman, Ernesto Alcalde, and Peter Jankowski. Matt Olmstead acts as the show’s current showrunner.
A Promising Season Ahead
The upcoming season promises to deliver excitement as highlighted by a producer’s enthusiastic declaration at the TCA Summer Press Tour,
It’s an amazing three hours of television.
