Jeremy Clarkson’s Farm celebrates huge milestone as latest smash record ratings are revealed
Clarkson’s Farm has celebrated a huge milestone as the only streamed TV programme to make the top 40 most watched shows of the past year.
Jeremy Clarkson’s show has been a ratings phenomenon for Amazon and something of a business boom for the Grand Tour star.
Since launching in 2021, the show – which also brought straight-talking Cotswold farmer Kaleb Cooper to prominence – has documented Clarkson’s attempts to transform his huge 1,000-acre Diddly Squat Farm into a working business complete with a farm shop and organic beer brand.
It’s second series has now been viewed by a total of 4.6million earning it a spot at 36 in the top 40 ratings. Furthermore the list didn’t feature any of the other big streamers including Netflix, Apple TV+ or Disney+.
The hit show also had equal viewers with the highest-rating episode of BBC1’s Countryfile, and almost equalled an episode of rural soap Emmerdale, which had 4.7m viewers.
The figure was brought to light as part of new research carried out by Channel 4 as they examine how people viewed television.
The data also revealed that the show equals the ratings of ITV’s Dancing on Ice and beat Gogglebox on Channel 4.
It also showed that of the 14 of the top 40 shows watched by young people on streaming services, Clarkson’s Farm was the most watched of this selection.
Reportedly 1.6million youngsters have viewed the show and Prime Video have confirmed that the second season of the show, which dropped in February, had broken viewing records for the streamer.
The documentary was Prime Video’s most-watched original series in the UK since the data started being collected, beating the Lord of the Rings TV series.
Earlier this month news broke that Clarkson’s hit Amazon series Clarkson’s Farm is set to be renewed for a fourth season by the streaming giant.
The news comes despite suggestions it would be axed following the fall out from the ex-Top gear presenter’s comments on Meghan Markle last year.
The show’s future has been brought into doubt after Clarkson sparked a backlash with an incendiary column about the Duchess of Sussex in which he said he ‘hated’ the royal.
Clarkson apologised for the article, calling his language ‘disgraceful’. The Sun newspaper also apologised for publishing the column and removed it online.
Meanwhile Ipso, the press watchdog, upheld a complaint that the column was sexist towards the duchess, describing some of Clarkson’s comments about her as ‘pejorative and prejudicial’.
It was thought that Clarkson’s Farm would end with Season 3, expected in 2024, with The Grand Tour also ending after four more special episodes, the last of which is expected to be in late 2024.
However, Deadline reports that the streamer is now ‘preparing to renew the show’, and although ‘a deal is not finalised’ the discussions around a comeback ‘have been positive’.
Amazon declined to comment when approached by MailOnline about the report.
