Jensen Ackles Will Appear More in Tracker Season 3
Jensen Ackles is Returning to Tracker. The Supernatural alum will return as Russell Shaw, the estranged brother of star Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw, in the upcoming second season of the CBS drama.

According to TheWrap, Hartley revealed during the presentation of Tracker at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that Ackles will return as Russell Shaw for Season 2. “We’ve got him, he’s coming back,” the actor confirmed. “We’re having a lot of fun with it, it’s a great story.” Showrunner Elwood Reid added that Ackles will appear in multiple episodes, hinting that the actor and the character will be part of a multi-episode storyline that he’s “extremely excited about.”

“I’ve worked with Jensen before, and Justin’s friends have worked with him,” Elwood continued, referencing his time as showrunner for ABC’s Big Sky, which brought Ackles on as a regular cast member for its third and final season. “It’s like family — when we text him [he says], ‘tell me where and when,’ and he shows up. That’s the kind of guy he is.” Ackles debuted as Russell Shaw in the penultimate episode of Season 1, “Off the Books,” which aired on CBS on May 12.

Jensen Ackles Set to Lead New Prime Video Series
The news that Ackles will be joining Tracker Season 2 comes after fans speculated that the actor might not be able to return due to his upcoming Prime Video series, Countdown. Announced in June 2024, Countdown is being developed exclusively for Ackles, who previously worked with Prime Video on the popular superhero series The Boys.

The upcoming thriller begins with “a suspicious murder in broad daylight, leading to LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) being recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents from every branch of law enforcement to investigate. But when the truth about a darker conspiracy is revealed, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”

Joining Ackles on Countdown will be Jessica Camacho (The CW’s The Flash) as Amber Oliveras, a “14-year veteran of the Drug Enforcement Administration. Undercover in multiple operations. She’s a tough cookie who doesn’t back down from anyone. She’s intrigued by this new ops team and while she seems to do pretty well on her own, it’s great to work with others.” Countdown’s first season will consist of 13 episodes and is created by Derek Haas, who will serve as showrunner.
