Jensen Ackles makes his triumphant return alongside Justin Hartley in the upcoming episode of CBS’ hit show Tracker, and to mark the occasion, Collider is delighted to exclusively reveal a sneak peek at the events of the episode, which sees Hartley’s Colter Shaw and Ackles’ Russell Shaw reunite, with Russell explaining exactly how he found Colter in the middle of a black site. There’s a twist to this weekend’s episode, as Colter suddenly goes missing this time around while searching for his missing father. With nowhere to go, Reenie (FIona Rene) decides to ask her brother, Russell, for help.
Ackles joined Tracker at the end of Season 1, bringing a new dynamic to the show as their strained relationship stems from Russell killing their father, as Hartley explained to Collider’s Christina Radish earlier this year.
. “Colter’s brother killed his father, so that creates a different dynamic. The relationship with Dory is strained for other reasons. It’s not that he suspects her of doing anything wrong, but it’s strained for a lot of different reasons,” Hartley said, adding that he thought it was important for Colter to have someone “who can stand up to Colter, in a good way or a bad way, and who you believe is his brother,” noting that Ackles was his choice for the role from the start.
Just quoting the numbers, it’s a lot. Tracker is the number one scripted show of the 2023/2024 TV season, averaging 11.6 million viewers per episode. Yesterday, it was announced that the Season 2 premiere was a huge success for CBS on Sunday night when it aired, with 8.3 million live and day viewers, surpassing Matlock’s first episode for the number one spot.
Last season, the first seven episodes of Season 1 drew 19 million viewers in 35 days, which are incredible numbers by any measure and a sign of how much interest the show has. More notably, the Season 2 premiere didn’t have the bonus of a Super Bowl prelude, which typically rewards viewers who leave their TVs on the same channel after the big game, but it still delivered great viewership.
