The Virgin River season 5 part 1 finale lives up to the show’s reputation for game-changing developments. Ahead of the episode, there were several ongoing Virgin River storylines and mysteries the show needed to answer. Most were addressed in the finale, which also opened up new ones for Virgin River season 5 part 2 to explore.
Brady and Mike were on the precipice of exposing the villainous Melissa’s criminal activity when Brady is taken hostage by her team, leaving Brady and Mike’s fates hanging in the balance. There are several shocking personal storylines as well, from Lizzie having a life-changing discovery to Mel learning a family secret. Perhaps most shockingly, the show finally reveals the father of Charmaine’s twins. Although Virgin River season 5 part 1’s ending drops a number of major reveals, it also teases new developments for the remaining season 5 episodes.
Did Mel Lose The Baby In Virgin River?
Sadly, it is later confirmed towards the end of Virgin River season 5 part 1 that Mel did indeed lose her baby. This tragic event causes Mel a great deal of emotional turmoil, as this miscarriage combined with her previous pregnancy struggles become too much for her to bear, and she feels as though the universe doesn’t want her to have children. However, during the Virgin River season 5 part 1 finale, Mel realizes she needs a change of perspective, and her conversation with Jack at the end of the episode suggests that she still wants to start a family, even if it’s not exactly how they imagined.
Virgin River Season 5’s Calvin Twists Explained
Perhaps even more surprising than Calvin having survived the explosion are his stated intentions now that he’s back in Virgin River. At the end of the part 1 finale, Calvin reveals that he has a surprising connection to one of Virgin River’s residents, which will undoubtedly have major implications once it’s revealed to the rest of the community in Virgin River season 5 part 2.
Calvin Is The Father Of Charmaine’s Twins
One of the biggest mysteries in Virgin River since Charmaine dropped the bombshell that Jack isn’t really the father of her twins has been who the real father actually is. When Jack and Charmaine clear the air about her big lie, Charmaine tells Jack that the twins’ real father was a one-time thing and that he was someone she didn’t think would be a good dad. Because of this statement, Charmaine made it seem like the twins’ father wasn’t anyone significant to the show. However, Calvin’s reappearance during the season 5 part 1 finale shows how wrong this assumption really was.
Calvin Is Alive: What His Survival Means For Virgin River’s Future
After Calvin’s houseboat exploded in Virgin River season 4 and Calvin was presumed dead, the fact that he somehow made it out alive is sure to be a major plot point in the coming episodes. When season 5 villain Melissa was arrested as a result of Mike and Brady’s undercover operation, Virgin River’s characters assumed that the criminal threat to the small town was gone. Not only does Calvin’s reemergence prove this to be false, but he’ll likely be an even greater threat than before now that he doesn’t have any oversight from Melissa.
In addition to Calvin potentially reviving his criminal activity in Virgin River, the fact that he’s alive and is revealed to be the twins’ father will shape Charmaine’s story for Virgin River season 5 part 2. Because of her lies to Jack, Charmaine is already on thin ice with many of the community members of Virgin River, but the revelation that she had a relationship with Calvin will inevitably strain those relationships even further. Between his criminal past and unwanted connection to Charmaine, Calvin’s return is a problem that multiple characters in the series will be dealing with, possibly for the remainder of the season.
Who Is Mel’s Real Father In Virgin River?
At the very end of Virgin River season 5 part 1, Mel receives some startling news from her sister Joey. According to Joey, she found letters between their mother and a person from Virgin River that seem to be indicative of an affair, which is shocking in and of itself, but even more shocking is Joey’s theory that their mom’s lover might be Mel’s real father. Since the episode ends before Mel can question who the other writer of the letters is, Virgin River hasn’t yet revealed who Mel’s real dad could be, making it a huge mystery ahead of the second half of the season.
As for who her father could be, There are several characters in Virgin River who are the right age to be Mel’s father, with some of the most shocking possibilities being Doc, Jo Ellen’s husband Nick, or even Lily’s deceased husband Buck. However, since it’s just as likely that Mel’s dad could be a previously unseen character, his identity will remain open to speculation until Virgin River finds time to explore Mel’s new discovery.
Mike’s Fate In Virgin River Season 5 Explained
The Virgin River season 5 part 1 finale opens with the continuation of the showdown between Brady and Melissa’s people after he finds definitive proof of her pushing drugs and laundering money through Jack’s business. When Jack arrives and saves Brady, a fight breaks out between them and Melissa’s team, although things seem to be defused when Mike arrives with the police. However, the operation takes a turn for the worst when Mike ends up taking a bullet in the process of saving Brady from one of Melissa’s right-hand men. Given this scene is the end of the episode’s cold open, Mike’s fate is left a cliffhanger.
Luckily, Mike’s condition isn’t left a mystery for too long in Virgin River. When the Netflix show’s main characters arrive at the hospital, it’s revealed that while Mike lost a lot of blood as a result of his wounds, he is alive and in stable condition. By the end of the season 5 part 1 finale, Mike is even conscious and able to speak, which allows him and Brie to finally begin kindling the romance that they share together in the original Virgin River books.
Is Lizzie Pregnant In Virgin River Season 5? What It Means For Part 2
Towards the end of Virgin River season 5 part 1, Lizzie and Denny have an important talk at the fair that culminates with her revealing that she suspects she might be pregnant. This is clearly a shock for both of them considering that their relationship only became official at the beginning of Virgin River season 5. However, what’s even more shocking is the implications that Lizzie’s potential pregnancy could have for the future of Virgin River.
It’s worth considering what such a reveal would mean for Lizzy’s relationships in the show. Though Lizzie told Denny about her potential pregnancy, it can’t be known for sure if the baby would be Denny’s since Lizzie had also been with Ricky fairly recently in the show’s timeline. This possibility is supported by the original Virgin River books, which see Lizzie and Ricky have a baby together, meaning its paternity isn’t so clear-cut. Depending on what happens with Lizzie’s pregnancy storyline, Virgin River season 5 part 2 could be one of the show’s most drama-filled stories yet.
