The Rookie star Jenna Dewan returns to the set of season 7 with new behind-the-scenes photos and a video, following her leave of absence after giving birth. Dewan portrays Bailey Nune, a firefighter and the wife of Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan, playing a significant role in his personal and professional endeavors. It was previously reported that Dewan would not be showing up in the first episodes of The Rookie season 7 due to her pregnancy, pushing off a significant storyline regarding her character until later in the season.
Now, Dewan has posted multiple images and a video to Instagram, showing herself back working on The Rookie after taking her leave of absence.
The photos show her getting prepared for a scene in her firefighter gear, as well as her holding her newborn baby throughout the process. Dewan also posted a comedic video revealing she accidentally wore two different shoes to set last week, which can be viewed below:
What To Expect From Bailey In The Rookie Season 7
Dewan’s return is a good sign for how season 7’s story will play out, indicating a major cliffhanger from the previous batch of episodes is going to get resolved. During The Rookie season 6 finale, Monica helps Bailey’s ex-husband Jason escape from prison, indicating he’s now coming after his former wife for revenge. While this storyline won’t circle back around until later in the season, her return to set already indicates how she’ll have a key presence this season, no doubt involving her ex-husband’s return in the process.
While many of The Rookie’s villains have had personal grudges with police officers for their past crimes, or have betrayed their trust in some capacity, Jason is unique because of the terrible things he’s done. When he first appeared in season 4, it was revealed he’d mentally abused Bailey, with him being out of prison causing more issues in her life because of his actions. Since he’s now free at the start of season 7, his return will likely coincide with more issues, not just for her, but also for Nolan, now that the pair are married.
Given the painful memories of her past and how much Jason represents them, it’s unclear how The Rookie is going to handle his return, alongside the response Bailey has to him breaking out of prison. Since he’s already proven himself dangerous in his previous appearances, his next course of action will likely include some of the worst things he’s ever done to the newlyweds. With Dewan back in the show, it’s only a matter of time before her story takes a dramatic turn, leading to the potential conclusion of a long-running revenge story.
