Jamie-Lynn Sigler is doing an extreme ‘milk cleanse’ in a bid to improve her gut health.
The 43-year-old actress revealed the bizarre feat on her former Sopranos co-star Robert Iler’s podcast Not Today, Pal.
“You guys should hear what I’m doing right now, you’d think I’m crazy,” she said.
“It’s shocking because I love food, I love sweets. I’m on a milk cleanse. I just drink whole milk for days and that’s it.”
To illustrate her point, Jamie-Lynn pulled out a large jug of milk.
“The idea behind it is that parasites love milk. I’ve had a lot of gut problems, I’ve tried a lot of different things to help,” she explained.
“I know enough people who have done it and said it’s really good,” she added.
The former HBO star explained that the cleanse involved drinking milk for eight days and taking special pills.
‘Then you take these pills, and the idea is that all the parasites that are hiding in your body, they’re all going to come out because all they’re getting is milk,’ she said.
Jamie-Lynn said she was ‘not hungry’ after the diet and went to the bathroom a few times that day.
‘It just helps you cleanse your body,’ she said.
High-dairy diets have grown in popularity in recent years and are popular with bodybuilders due to the high calories needed to build muscle and develop muscle – but some health experts warn that consuming too much milk can be dangerous.
Health problems from drinking too much milk can include excess calcium, bloating, gas and constipation.
In June, Jamie-Lynn revealed that she had a near-death experience after returning home from a trip to India.
On an episode of her MeSsy podcast with Christina Applegate, the actress, best known for her starring role as Meadow Soprano on The Sopranos from 1999 to 2007, opened up about a post-surgery complication that nearly killed her.
‘Less than a year ago, when I went to India and lived at this monastery, I felt so alert, connected and at peace… two weeks later, I had a really bad reaction to a surgery and developed sepsis, ended up in hospital and almost died,’ she told listeners.
The star, who noted that she had never shared the story publicly until now, explained that she had been fighting for her life and had come close to death.
After the traumatic experience, she said she allowed herself to ‘break down and cry’ and ‘feel the pain’ before seeking professional help.
Post-operative sepsis ‘is a rare complication of surgery where sepsis occurs shortly after’ an operation.
According to East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, ‘in severe cases it can be life-threatening’ and can cause ‘multiple organ failure’.
It is a rare condition that ‘affects up to one per cent of patients who have had routine surgery’.
She did not reveal which surgery she had before the infection.
Jamie-Lynn, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) at the age of 20, also discussed how a doctor’s appointment helped her get into a better mindset.
After saying she felt frustrated with physical therapy without seeing any improvement, her doctor encouraged her to “let go” of the idea that she could “change” her body or not do enough.
“That was the moment I really needed,” she explains. “I felt like I had taken a lot of the pressure off of me that I needed to constantly fix myself, change myself, or heal myself.”
Jamie-Lynn co-hosts the podcast MeSsy with Christina Applegate, who also has MS.
