Speaking with CinemaBlend, however, Weiss explained how the Hudson University featured in FBI season 8 is not meant to be the one that appears semi-regularly in Law & Order: SVU. The showrunner stated that there’s no chance of a crossover happening due to the two shows being on different networks, with FBI on CBS and SVU on NBC:
There is no crossover from NBC to CBS. There is a bright line between those two universes.
Hudson University has appeared in FBI before, being a major part of season 7, episode 5. This makes it a small but important part of FBI‘s universe, separate from its involvement in storylines in Law & Order. As Weiss states, there’s also the network discrepancy that keeps the locations from being the same, even if they wanted them to be.
However, FBI is tangentially connected to the Law & Order universe, despite no crossover plans on the table. Tracy Spiridakos appeared as Detective Hailey Upton from Chicago P.D. on the cast of FBI in season 2, episode 19. This very small crossover ties the series to One Chicago, which has had multiple crossovers with Law & Order: SVU over the years.
As of writing, there are no crossovers with any other shows planned for FBI season 8. This includes the franchise’s upcoming CIA spinoff, set to premiere on February 23, 2026. The only other connection the show shares with Law & Order is Jeremy Sisto and Alana De La Garza having been series regulars on the original, playing different characters in the newer procedural.
It seems like FBI‘s connection to Law & Order: SVU will remain on the bridge that is the One Chicago universe. Although Hudson University drums up some compelling potential storylines if a crossover was possible, it unfortunately appears there won’t be such a connection between the series after all. It’s still an intriguing semi-Easter egg, even if they’re not the same.
