Two decades ago, JAG ended its ten-season run on CBS, and despite its successful run, it never got the reboot treatment, much to fans’ disappointment. However, the legal drama spawned the long-running series NCIS, which in turn led to spin-offs NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawaiʻi, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Origins. Leading the classic show was David James Elliott, who portrayed Harmon Rabb Jr. throughout, and most recently, has fantastic news about a possible JAG reboot, in acknowledgment of the series’ new milestone.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 26, Elliott weighed in on the chances of ever returning to the role of Lt. Harmon Rabb Jr. “I mean, there’s always a chance,” he said. The Revival star further noted that Donald P. Bellisario, who created JAG, is still alive, so a reboot is certainly possible. “Don Bellisario is still alive. I mean, it’s his 90th birthday coming up,” Elliott added. “Certainly, I think it would be interesting.”
Not only does the actor think a JAG revival would be amazing, but he’s also very interested in being a part of it; however, he isn’t sure if he would be called up. He confessed, “I would be down for it, but I don’t know if it involves me. You know those reboots, they go, ‘Yeah, thank you. We got new guys!'” JAG originally premiered on NBC, airing only one season from September 23, 1995, to May 22, 1996. The remaining nine seasons were broadcast on CBS, starting January 3, 1997, and concluding with the series finale on April 29, 2005.
Will David James Elliott Ever Reprise His ‘JAG’ Role in ‘NCIS’?
While fans await more news about a potential JAG reboot, you may recall that Elliott recently divulged whether he would ever reprise his JAG role in NCIS. Apparently, the TV star was not so optimistic, even though he was involved in NCIS: Los Angeles for a three-episode arc across Seasons 10 and 11. At the time, Catherine Bell was also part of the arc as her JAG character, Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie. “I don’t see that happening,” Elliott said of returning as Harm in NCIS. “I don’t really know any of the people on NCIS, but I guess if they came to me, I certainly would consider it. So who knows.” The characters of NCIS were first introduced in two episodes of JAG: Season 8, Episodes 20 and 21, “Ice Queen” and “Meltdown” in a backdoor pilot.
