‘It Was Over for Me’: SEAL Team Star Explains Why the Show Needed to End
In an interview with Collider to promote the final season of SEAL Team, Boreanaz opened up about his decision to end the show after season seven, explaining that he “decided to end the show the way I wanted to end the show with this character. It was over for me. I knew that and that’s what I showed them. I was like, ‘I’m done, physically and emotionally.'” The actor shared that “it’s hard to show those kinds of emotions, day in and day out, when you’re filming them.” Boreanaz went on to talk about how difficult it was to portray Special Warfare Commander Jason Hayes on SEAL Team, noting that “from my perspective, as an actor portraying these emotions, I can only imagine what they’re like for people who are actually going through them. The help is there, it’s there, but it takes time. There’s a process to it.
There’s a grief involved. Ultimately, I don’t think it ever really goes away, but you can kind of understand how to manage that through consistency and discipline.” He explained that these emotions and the grieving process are “what we wanted to show in these stories for this season. I know, the reality is that it happens. From my character’s perspective, can he do it? I don’t know. He may not make it. He may succumb on the battlefield. Ultimately, he may die on the battlefield. That’s within his grasp.” What is SEAL Team? Created by Benjamin Cavell, SEAL Team originally aired on CBS for its first four and a half seasons, before moving to Paramount+ midway through its fifth season. The series follows the professional and personal lives of Bravo Team, the Navy SEALs’ most elite unit, as they train, plan, and execute the most dangerous and high-risk missions our country could ask of them. Deployed on covert missions around the world at any time, knowing the cost to them and their families, this tight-knit SEAL team demonstrates unwavering patriotism and fearless dedication even in the face of great odds. In addition to Boreanaz, SEAL Team also stars Neil Brown Jr., A. J. Buckley, Toni Trucks, Beau Knapp, Jessica Paré, Judd Lormand, and Dylan Walsh. David Boreanaz Is Open to a Bones Revival As SEAL Team comes to an end, Boreanaz is on the hunt for his next acting project. The actor recently expressed interest in reprising his role as Bones FBI Agent Seeley Booth, stating, “It’s something I would never turn down because it would be interesting to see where Booth and Temperance Brennan are, and the other characters, especially their relationship and how it evolves over the years.” He continued, “That kind of show and the way we shoot that show is so unique with the humor that you can really do anything with it.”
Nearly a month after Boreanaz made those revival comments, his Bones co-star Emily Deschanel (Dr. Temperance Brennan) revealed that she was surprised by his comments because he “always said he wasn’t open” to a Bones revival. The actor continued that she would be open to returning with Boreanaz for a Bones sequel, noting, “I never say never.”
