The latest installment of Grey’s Anatomy opened with Grey Sloan Memorial reeling from a devastating hospital explosion that left the staff racing to save lives under impossible conditions. By episode 6, the tension escalated as Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) faced life-threatening complications with her pregnancy and a massive bus crash flooded the ER, putting everyone on high alert.

Already this season, the long-running medical drama reached a major milestone. Season 22, episode 2 — which aired on Oct. 16 — marked Grey’s Anatomy‘s 450th episode. The segment was directed by Kevin McKidd, who also stars as Dr. Owen Hunt.

Grey’s Anatomy took a mid-season break after the sixth episode aired on Nov. 13. New episodes will resume on Jan. 8, 2026, with the release of the seventh episode, which is currently untitled.

Other ABC series returning that same week include Shifting Gears, High Potential, Abbott Elementary, Shark Tank, 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville, among others.

Like the previous season, the 22nd installment of Grey’s Anatomy will feature 18 episodes, meaning fans have 12 more episodes to look forward to following the show’s midseason hiatus.

While speaking to PEOPLE in October 2025, Luddington teased that viewers are in for another emotional ride this season.

“It’s the Grey’s you know and love, but maybe also the Grey’s you love to hate a little bit,” she said. “I think there’s going to be some throwing things at your TV screen, which is what Grey’s does best, too.”
