There will never be another John Black on Days of our Lives. Let’s just make that clear from the start.. However, his son Brady has been showing some very John-like qualities lately.
Something Is Different About Brady
A void has been left following John’s (the late Drake Hogestyn) death. John had an essence that is simply missing in Salem.
Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) recent actions have us believing the writers are setting the stage for him to, not fill John’s shoes because that could never happen, but be a version of his father.
Since John’s death, Brady has been taking care of Marlena (Deidre Hall), Belle (Martha Madison), and his children. Brady has a fierce protectiveness about him regarding family, just like John did.
Now, Brady has teamed up with Steve (Stephen Nichols) to find out the truth about Tate’s (Leo Howard) baby. Their dynamic pays homage to John and Steve’s friendship, while also having Brady channel his father to get answers about his grandchild.
Those are just a few differences we have noticed in Brady recently. It makes sense to have him step up and try to fill the void left by John. Brady is the logical choice, especially since Martsolf has similar mannerisms and qualities to Hogestyn. Perhaps from years of working together.
As Soap Hub reported, Brady will have plenty more opportunities to channel his father this fall when Marlena’s health crisis worsens and Rachel’s (Alice Halsey) life is in jeopardy.
While we know Brady isn’t replacing John, we do think the writers are trying to keep a sense of John in the mix through his son. What do you think?
