Jim Parsons says one of his biggest concerns about coming out publicly during The Big Bang Theory was how the media might respond.
Speaking with David Tennant in 2020, the actor explained that he expected to be labeled a “gay actor” after opening up about his sexuality. At the time, that possibility made him nervous.
However, Parsons now sees the experience differently.
“Looking back,” he said, “it’s been a great thing for me.”
The actor revealed his coming out happened naturally during a New York Times interview about The Normal Heart, when he confirmed the project held personal significance for him.
Although he had always been open with friends and family, Parsons admitted he felt cautious early in the sitcom’s rise to fame and worried public attention might affect the show’s success.
Instead, he now considers the moment an important and positive milestone in his life.
