I’m Still Waiting for Fire Country to Pay Off with Max Thieriot’s Perfect SEAL Team Reunion After 2 Years
While watching Fire Country, I couldn’t help but wonder if the series would feature a reunion between Max Thieriot and AJ Buckley. The two starred in the military drama series SEAL Team with an incredible on-screen friendship. Over six seasons, they took on some of the most dangerous missions together and seemed unstoppable. However, that wasn’t to be. Clay Spenser (Thieriot) tragically and heartbreakingly passed away in season 6, while Buckley’s Sonny Quinn survived. With season 3 of Fire Country coming up, there’s a chance the two actors could reunite on screen.
Max Thieriot plays Fire Country’s protagonist, Bode Leone. Unlike his SEAL Team character, Bode is a prisoner trying to redeem himself by volunteering for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). It’s exciting to see Thieriot play a new character after Clay’s sad death on SEAL Team. The experience would be even better if Thieriot wasn’t the only one appearing on the military drama. While Buckley will be busy with SEAL Team season 7, I hope to see him and Thieriot reunite on Fire Country.
Since AJ Buckley is still very involved with Max Thieriot as one of the producers on Fire Country, seeing him on the show is very possible. He could play a new firefighter or even an old friend of Bode’s before he became a prisoner. Even if Buckley doesn’t have a recurring character, any of these roles could potentially feature him in at least one episode.
With AJ Buckley being one of the producers, the show still has a way for him to appear. The Fire Country season 2 finale sees Bode getting over his ex-girlfriend who is now married. One of the best ways to do that is to introduce a new important character. That’s where Buckley comes in. Again, he doesn’t have to be a recurring character to be important. Buckley could be around long enough for Bode to get over Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila).
Clay’s death on SEAL Team was emotional to watch not only because he was such a great character, but also because of Sonny’s reaction. The scene where he was at Clay’s grave perfectly captured the terrible feeling of losing a close friend. The actors reuniting on screen in Fire Country will remind me of those heavy emotions on SEAL Team. However, they will be transformed into more positive emotions because I will know that there is a chance for the two to have another warm friendship on screen.
AJ Buckley’s potential appearance in Fire Country could be his last chance to reunite with Max Thieriot on screen. This possibility would make their reunion all the more emotional. After all, Thieriot responded to the possibility of Clay appearing in SEAL Team season 7 by saying that it’s “not likely.” With that in mind, any potential for their on-screen friendship in future SEAL Team seasons could only happen on Fire Country. Since Buckley is a producer, he could make this reunion happen, and he should do so for the emotional impact.
In a Reddit post, AJ Buckley responded to a question about the potential of appearing in Fire Country with Theriot. He expressed openness to the possibility, explaining, “We’ve talked about it and thought it would be funny if I appeared.” Knowing that he and Max Thieriot are both considering Buckley’s appearance makes my hopes for this reunion even higher. This added hope comes especially from how they both seem determined to make this reunion worthwhile because of their real-life friendship. Like their SEAL Team characters, their potential on-screen friendship in Fire Country would easily come naturally. They just need to make it happen now.
Indeed, their initial reunion [of Thieriot and Buckley] would still be emotional. However, that emotional tone would be tempered with ironic comedy.
Even if Bode and AJ Buckley’s potential Fire Country characters didn’t get along on screen, it would still be fun to watch. Knowing that the actors are close friends could still make this ironic reunion worthwhile for the series. It could add a more comedic quality to the show. With all the challenges Fire Country faces for inmate firefighters and real wildfires, a little humor is needed every now and then. It lightens the heavy emotions of the series. Indeed, their initial reunion will still be emotional. However, that emotional tone will be turned into wry humor.
AJ Buckley’s potential appearance in Fire Country could change the trajectory of the series for the better simply because of his real-life and on-screen friendship with Max Thieriot. Many actors
