“I’m Actually Pushing It On Her” — How Chenford’s Dynamic Heats Up in The Rookie Season 8

After Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford reunited romantically in The Rookie season 7, Richard T. Jones, who plays Sergeant Grey, believes this could change the dynamic between Grey, Bradford, and Chen in season 8. From the earlier seasons of The Rookie, Grey have always had a close connection with Lucy and Tim. In fact, Grey always feels the need to have Chen’s back no matter what, and has always been a friend to Bradford. So when he found out Chen and Bradford were casually seeing each other again, he was quite shocked. Grey didn’t want this to affect their work dynamic.

While speaking with ScreenRant’s Rachel Foertsch, Jones spoke about Lucy and Tim and how his character had a huge impact on the two cops getting together. Jones believes Grey will be on Lucy about keeping Tim in check when on duty during The Rookie season 8. Tim still has strong feelings for her, and Grey clearly doesn’t want that to get in the way of their work in the LAPD.

ScreenRant: Chenford fans have a lot to thank you for because you are the one who paired Tim and Lucy up in the pilot episode. When do you think Grey might’ve noticed a potential match?

Richard T. Jones: Grey always knows. It’s funny because I think Grey has always been aware of this thing. I’m just hoping that Tim makes the wise decision and steps away, but now I know he can’t step away, so now I’m actually pushing it on her to run this thing because Bradford is whipped. Alright? That man is whipped over some Chen, so she’s kind of running the show. What you’re going to see next year is me trying to appeal to her, like, “Look, just keep him focused.”
