Actor and comedian Tim Allen started reading the Bible in its entirety, and he’s not stopping anytime soon. Allen is “amazed” as he continues to read through the New Testament.
“It is such a gift when I get out of the way,” reflected Allen.
Tim Allen Experiences How the ‘Words and Meaning Flow’ While Reading the Bible
Last year, Tim Allen publicly committed to reading through the Bible, and he’s updated his fans and followers through the journey. Allen has read the full 39 books of the Old Testament and continues to read through the New Testament.
Earlier this year, Allen shared that he finished the Old Testament, calling it a “treasure.”
“After nearly a year I have finished [the] entire Old Testament and the experience of reading, dedicated focus and no drifting has made this a humbling overwhelming experience,” said Allen. “What a treasure.”
Recently, the comedian posted about the “gift” he experiences when he gets “out of the way and the words and meaning flow.” A previous post shows a picture of his Jerusalem Bible, tabbed and worn. The Jerusalem Bible is an English translation of the Catholic Bible, published in 1966 by Darton, Longman, and Todd.
“This week I am now in the book of the Gospel of Paul. A Roman Jew familiar with Plato, Stoicism, and other Greek schools of thought,” said Allen on Monday (June 2).
It was unclear, initially, what Allen meant by the “Gospel of Paul,” as there are no books of the Bible by that name. Several followers speculated that the actor meant the book of Romans, written by the Apostle Paul.
Allen has since posted to clarify and confirm what others suspected. “Ok specifically reading Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans,” said Allen.
“I am amazed in seven pages!” Allen exclaimed.
Nearly a million people have viewed Allen’s update, with many offering encouragement.
Last year, Allen admitted to never having read the whole Bible, cover to cover. He shared a commitment to doing just that.
“Never took the time in all my years to ever read and really read the Bible,” said Allen on Feb. 9. “Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets. Next up to New Testament. So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.”
