How to apply for The Bachelorette and the unexpected questions you must answer
Many people apply to try and find love on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, with some being lucky and others not getting a romantic relationship out of it, but finding unexpected fame instead.
However, trying to join the ABC shows requires some extensive background information–though the initial information required on an application isn’t quite as rigorous as what applicants face on The Golden Bachelor.
While an STD test was done for Gerry Turner before he became the show’s lead, it isn’t the only thing applicants have to share–with those on the show for non-seniors also subjected to some unexpected questions.
Many men are expected to have applied or to apply once a Bachelorette is announced, but not all will make the cut to compete for the not-yet-announced lead’s heart.
While some will just be cut because there are typically only between 25-30 contestants each season, others will be cut because of sordid reasons related to a medical test performed prior to being cast.
According to an application on Bachelor Nation, in addition to regular background information, applicants need to share if they’ve been married previously and if they have children.
They also need to share the name of the closest big city to their hometown, whether they’ve ever applied for the show before, if they’ve participated in other casting events and share their reason for being on the show.
They also submit a photo and social media handles, although casting directors have previously shared other ways to stand out,
According to Insider, video is recommended over photo in order to better showcase personality, while Vulture reports that semifinalists then travel to Los Angeles for additional interviews, photo shoots, the background and medical checks, psychological evaluation and investigation by a PI.
While the process is extensive, the application for The Golden Bachelor actually asks even more of applicants.
That application also asks about income, education, net worth, citizenship status, and more details about family history, including siblings and grandkids.
Other questions on the application also include describing an ideal mate in terms of physical and personality attraction, as well as the importance of age range, religion, political views and race and/or ethnicity.
Applicants for the show also have to share relationship dealbreakers, living situation, obstacles they have overcome, any conflicts with production dates, if they’ve been on other reality TV shows, filed for bankruptcy, been convicted of a crime or had a temporary restraint order issued against them.
Even more interesting is one of the final questions on that application.
“If you are male, did you watch the Golden Bachelor? If yes, which of the women did you find yourself most attracted to and why,” the application asks.
It’s unclear when fans will be introduced to the show’s newest applicants and the new lead.
