How Tim Allen’s ‘Shifting Gears’ Took Over the Detroit Auto Show — And Why You Should Care!

Tim Allen’s new ABC sitcom, “Shifting Gears,” should appeal to car buffs. And what better place to find such potential viewers than at the Detroit Auto Show?

Special screenings of “Shifting Gears” will be featured Saturday, the show’s opening day for the public, at the main floor stage at 12:15 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

The screenings will be “packed with laughs, heartwarming moments and exclusive giveaways,” at least while supplies last, according to the show’s description.

“Shifting Gears” stars Allen as the owner of a classic car restoration garage, an apt role for the actor and comedian who grew up in the Motor City region and has driven hit TV vehicles like “Home Improvement” and “Last Man Standing” to success.

In the show, Allen’s character is confronted with a repair job of a different kind when his estranged daughter, played by former “2 Broke Girls” star Kat Dennings, moves home with her two kids in the midst of a divorce.

The sitcom also stars Daryl Chill Mitchell and Seann William Scott as mechanics at the restoration shop.

“Shifting Gears,” which airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC (and streams on Hulu), debuted this week and performed well for the network. It drew the best numbers to its ABC time slot “in … well, at least a long while,” according to TVLine, improving on “The Golden Bachelorette.”
