How Old Bridgerton’s Returning Characters Are In Queen Charlotte’s Timeline

Many Bridgerton favorites returned for Queen Charlotte’s prequel which meant the new story could show much more of the characters’ younger selves.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story explores the lives of beloved Bridgerton characters, with their ages adjusted in the earlier timeline. Shonda Rhimes has expanded the Bridgerton universe beyond Julia Quinn’s novels by creating the prequel focused on the Bridgerton Queen. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story follows the start of Charlotte and King George’s marriage and reign together and switches between this period and the Bridgerton timeline, just after season 2. King George has had a very minor role up until Queen Charlotte so the Netflix prequel has finally been able to spotlight their tough but loving relationship.

Queen Charlotte has many returning characters from Bridgerton, all of whose backstories were quite unknown before the prequel. Lady Danbury and Lady Violet Bridgerton join Queen Charlotte as their history as young women are developed. Since Queen Charlotte and King George are based on the real King and Queen of England, it is presumed Queen Charlotte is set in 1761, the year the real King and Queen were married. This places Netflix’s prequel 53 years prior to Bridgerton season 2, set in 1814, and means some of the characters are a lot older than expected.

Young Queen Charlotte Is 17 Years Old
Leading the cast of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is Young Queen Charlotte, played by India Amarteifio. Young Queen Charlotte is one of the few ages that can be determined for definite in the Bridgerton prequel. When arguing with King George in episode 2, says “I am seven and ten years old,” making Young Queen Charlotte 17. This means in Bridgerton season 2 Queen Charlotte is 70 years old, however, Golda Rosheuvel, the actress who plays the older Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton, is only 53 years old. This age gap is presumably to make Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, and Lady Violet fit together better as a group of friends and emphasize their history together.

Young King George Is 23 Years Old
It is never specified how old Young King George is for certain in the series, but Queen Charlotte does base its main characters on the real King and Queen, thus making Young King George 23 years old. This age also fits with the historical facts around King George; he took the throne quite young and needed to marry to secure it. King George is therefore 76 years old in Bridgerton season 2. This age is not far from the actor who played King George in Bridgerton, James Fleet, who is 71 years old.

Young Lady Danbury Is 20-25 Years Old

Young Lady Danbury Is 20-25 Years Old
Unlike Queen Charlotte and King George, Lady Danbury is a completely fictional character made up for the Bridgerton books series. In Bridgerton, Lady Danbury is older than Queen Charlotte and Lady Violet Bridgerton, and this is emphasized more in Queen Charlotte as she has been married for a while with four children. Lady Danbury is likely between 20 and 25 years old, as she was married young, but is more mature than the teenage Queen. Therefore, in Bridgerton season 2 Lady Danbury is likely between 73 and 78 years old.

Young Violet Bridgerton Is 12 Years Old
Bridgerton’s leading matriarch, Violet Bridgerton, is another returning character, with her life outside of her children finally shown in Queen Charlotte. Lady Violet Bridgerton, who is still Violet Ledger in Queen Charlotte, has been confirmed by Shonda Rhimes to be just 12 years of age during the Bridgerton prequel. Violet still has not come out to the Religion in Queen Charlotte which matches her young age in the series. This makes Violet Bridgerton 65 years old in Bridgerton season 2, although Ruth Gemmell, who portrays the older Violet, is only 55 years old.

Young Brimsley Is 20-25 Years Old
Young Brimsley, Queen Charlotte’s right-hand man, becomes a major character in the Bridgerton universe in the Queen Charlotte after previously only appearing with the Queen. Young Brimsley is also the first LGBTQ+ relationship in Bridgerton which highlights the danger of being gay in the 18th and 19th centuries. Brimsley’s age is never stated, but he is old enough to have such a responsible job and still works for the Queen in Bridgerton.
