“He’s Got a Lot to Prove”: ‘Ransom Canyon’s Yancy Actor Teases What Could Happen in Season 2

As Season 1 of Ransom Canyon wrapped, fans of the new Netflix series were left with some loose threads that a new season would need to tie up. One of the characters that has the most to deal with is Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher), who presents himself as one kind of person throughout the episodes, only to reveal that he had a big secret that he conveniently forgot to tell his new lover, Ellie (Marianly Tejada). In a recent interview, Schumacher talked about his character’s path in a potential Season 2.
During the interview with Swoon, Schumacher commented on the fact that we did know that Yancy is a con artist, so lying is “just second nature” to him. At the same time, the actor mentioned that he does believe that Yancy is trying to start from scratch and be a new person, but apparently, old habits die hard. If the series comes back for more episodes, though, is any sort of redemption in the cards for Yancy? Schumacher weighed in:
“I think there’s a lot of guilt still around it, and I think that he feels like he’s got a lot to prove and earn to be a part of that. But I think that ultimately, yes, he is ready. It’s that fighting for what you want and what you believe in. I think that there’s the old life of running around and conning and all these sorts of things, but Yancy wants that chapter to close.”
Is ‘Ransom Canyon’ Renewed For Season 2?
So far, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the new series for a second season. The streamer might be biding its time to decide the future of the show, but its initial numbers look promising. After its debut on April 17, the show quickly rose to the top and was a hit with Netflix subscribers throughout the world. Globally, the series reached #2 as the most-watched title on the platform last week, and landed at #1 in the U.S. The series’ performance in the next couple of weeks will certainly be relevant to decisions regarding its future — but if Netflix wants to have its own Yellowstone, they’ll have to believe the show can become even more popular in the long run.
Ransom Canyon is created, written, and executive produced by April Blair (Wednesday). The cast also features Josh Duhamel (London Calling), Minka Kelly (Titans), Eoin Macken (La Brea), Lizzy Greene (A Million Little Things), Garret Wareing (Manifest), Andrew Liner (Vampire Academy), James Brolin (Sweet Tooth), Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy), Brett Cullen (The Blacklist), Tatanka Means (Horizon: An American Saga), and country singer Charley Crockett.
