Ever since the Harry Styles-inspired movie, After, hit theaters on April 12, 2019, we’ve all been pretty obsessed. We mean, the new flick is based off one of all our time favorite One Direction fanfictions, and seeing it come to life was truly a blessing.
Although it’s pretty hard to pick our favorite part, we could all probably agree that the lake scene was one of the most intense scenes in the entire movie. And the cutie who plays Hardin in the new flick, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, just spilled all the behind-the-scenes secrets on filming the epic scene. And get this, you guys — the British actor revealed it was really difficult!
“There were some bits where, when we were talking and about to kiss, I was wearing flippers because I could just about stand if I did. If I’d ever slipped, I would have drowned, but you have to adapt,” he told Collider. “Having to tread water and say lines without being out of breath was definitely a bit challenging. I got a cramp when I was on tiptoe, a couple of times. But, we got there in the end.”
OMG. In case you forgot what went down during the super romantic scene, allow us to refresh your memory. Hardin took Tessa (played by 13 Reasons Why actress Katherine Langford‘s little sister, Josephine Langford) to his all time favorite spot — a secluded and gorgeous lake. And when they decided to go for a dip, things quickly started to heat up between them.
And it turns out, nearly drowning wasn’t the only downside.
“Your hands are all prune-y and you keep getting out, and you don’t dry off because you didn’t bring a towel, we just stood there, freezing on the dock,” he continued.
But don’t worry guys, the 21-year-old explained that in the end, he did have a lot of fun while filming the scene.
“The first day of the lake scene, just being able to jump in, was the most fun. At that stage, we were really comfortable with the cast and crew, so that was just fun to do,” he continued. “The first time we got in, it was really hot and sunny, so I wanted to get in. It was just a nice body of water, on a really hot, humid day in Atlanta.”
He added that, “All in all, it was really fun.”
