Here’s How It’s Handling the Loss of This Key Cast Member in ‘Tracker’ Season 2
CBS’ hit drama Tracker is set to return to screens later this fall. Ahead of its much-anticipated return, the show has revealed that it will be losing a key cast member, Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin in the show’s first season. Such news will certainly have viewers wondering how the show might change because of it, and now series star and executive producer Justin Hartley has explained how Weigert’s departure will impact the show. During the first season of the hit drama, Teddi and Weigert’s wife Velma Bruin, played by Abby McEnany, served as handlers, providing crucial support to the show’s main character, Hartley’s Colter Shaw.
When asked by TV Insider how Teddi’s absence will change the story moving forward, Hartley responded by revealing that Velma will be working much more closely with Fiona Rene’s Reenie when Tracker Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 13 on CBS. The executive producer also teased what’s to come with Colter’s friend Bobby (Eric Graise). His comments read: “At the end of last season, Reenie decided that she was going to leave her company and go into business for herself. She’s having a big change in her life and in a way, she’s teaming up with Velma and you’re going to see a lot of the two of them working together, which is a really interesting dynamic. They both have the same goal just with some completely different ways of doing their business. Bobby, our computer genius, is in charge of some fun surprises for Reenie.” No reason was given for Weigert’s departure from CBS’s top-rated drama. However, Hartley’s comments about how the show plans to handle Teddi’s departure follow recent comments from showrunner Elwood Reid, who teased that Velma will be “taking on a very interesting role with something that was hinted at with the Reenie character in the last few episodes” of the first season.
While viewers won’t see Teddi return when Tracker returns, Jensen Ackles has revealed that he will be back for season two, reprising his role as Russell Shaw, Colter’s previously estranged brother. Barring any casting announcements before its October return, Tracker Season 2 will feature Hartley’s former This is Us co-stars Jennifer Morrison as Lizzy Hawking, Sofia Pernas as Billie Matalon, and Melissa Roxburgh as Dory Shaw. The series is based on the novel The Never Game by Jeffrey Deaver. A smash hit in its first season, averaging over 11 million live viewers per episode, Tracker was quickly greenlit for another season.
