After three chefs exited last week’s episode of “Hell’s Kitchen,” tensions were high as members of the red kitchen began the week by bickering among themselves — setting a tone for the episode.
Ahead of the week’s challenge, the chefs were sent to a dock to sort through a pile of fish. Inside this pile were seven species of fish that the chefs had to find which would be cooked in the challenge. The red team found all seven fish first, which gave them a 5-minute advantage in the challenge.
The weekly challenge saw chefs from the blue kitchen and red kitchen go head-to-head with competing fish dishes. Each chef would cook one of the seven fish to earn points for their team, with James Beard Award nominee and restaurateur Jeremy Sewall helping Gordon Ramsay choose the best dishes. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge would win an overnight trip to Newport, R.I. The losing team would have to clean up the mess left behind from the challenge.
Because the red team had eight members, the red team had to choose between chef Cat Smith and Ellie Parker’s sea bass — ultimately choosing Smith’s. Competing against the blue team’s Bradley Wildridge, Smith handedly won a point for the red team after Sewall noted there were issues with the skin on Wildridge’s bass.
Following the first dish, both teams went back-and-forth on points before being tied leading into the final fish dish. Cara Marie Hall from the red kitchen and Anthony Leonard of the blue kitchen were the last ones to face off with their mackerel dishes. With both receiving compliments, it was Leonard’s dish that was chosen — giving the blue team another win.

Still holding the “punishment pass” she earned in the second episode, chef Anaiya Lator from the red kitchen chose to use her pass and switch places with the blue team’s Antonio Wormley.
Dinner service once again featured celebrity diners with NFL Pro Bowler Tiki Barber in the red kitchen and Super Bowl champion Jordan Mailata in the blue kitchen.
Appetizers went out efficiently from both kitchens though issues presented themselves as entrees were set to go out. In the blue kitchen, the beef Wellingtons were not placed in the oven ahead of time, causing a delay on dishes. This mishap had Wildridge and Leonard fighting over who was to blame for the mistake.
Over in the red kitchen, chef Alexandra Jones’ lack of communication frustrated her teammates. Additionally, Smith kept undercooking vegetables while on the garnish station, irritating Ramsay.
Though both teams finished dinner service, Ramsay told the teams he did not feel right in announcing a winning team. Rather, he announced that the red team was the losing team and, in turn, must nominate three chefs for elimination.
Chefs Smith, Jones and Hall were nominated by their teammates. Ramsay chose Smith as this week’s chef to eliminate, asking for her jacket.
However, Ramsay was not done. In a twist, Ramsay sent everyone back to their rooms except Wildridge from the blue team, telling him he “dropped the ball” during dinner service.
The episode ends with the cliffhanger of Wildridge’s fate in “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Episode five airs next Thursday and will stream on Hulu starting Oct. 24.
