Heartstrings Alert! Boston Blue Episode 4 Set to Bring the First True Tearjerker of the Season md17

Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 4 may be the first tearjerker the Blue Bloods spinoff offers.

It feels weird to be excited about what may be a heartbreaking episode, but this one looks so good.

Danny will join the Silvers in a memorial prayer for their late father, and I’m wondering if he will remember Joe and Linda at the same time.

Among Other Things, I’m Thrilled About the Jewish Representation

I’m very familiar with Jewish memorial customs, but that doesn’t mean everyone is, and there are no words to express what it means to me for this to be on national television.

I’m a spiritual person, and I always enjoyed the Reagans’ saying grace and other Catholic rituals because I enjoy learning about and vicariously participating in others’ religious traditions, but it’s different when it’s your own religion — and it isn’t depicted often on TV.

The Silvers aren’t Orthodox or Hasidic, the two Jewish sects that tend to get more airtime for some reason. And they are going to light a yortzeit lamp and probably say the Mourners’ Kaddish this week.

Traditionally, this is done on the anniversary in the Jewish calendar of a person’s death rather than the secular date, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Boston Blue incorporates this.

Of course, this story is important for other reasons too.

It’ll probably give us more insight into the Silver family’s backstory, but just as importantly, it gives Danny a way to bond with the Silvers over shared losses.

The Reagans have their own tragic history.

Joe Reagan’s death cast a shadow over every family gathering for 14 seasons on Blue Bloods, especially after Joe Hill popped up on the Blue Bloods Season 10 finale and couldn’t get over not having grown up with his late father.

This character died off-screen before Blue Bloods began, yet was arguably the most important member of the family because his death broke all their hearts.

The one thing I’m disappointed about is that we didn’t get a prequel series, so we could get to know him better.

Anyway, Danny has had another huge loss because of Linda’s death.

She was his rock for so many years, and her murder was retaliation for Danny investigating mobsters who wanted him to back off.

This memorial storyline gives Danny the chance to give voice to that grief again, and for the audience, we get to make that connection between Blue Bloods and Boston Blue that some feel is lacking.

Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 4 Will Also Balance Work and Family Stories

Although Blue Bloods blended work and family storylines better than any other police procedural of recent years, it did sometimes lean too much to the cop side.

Eddie and Jamie’s wedding, and later their pregnancy storyline, were written as footnotes to stories about police work, which disappointed many fans of the couple.

Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 4 offers the new series a chance to demonstrate how it will handle the balance between work and family stories.

Of course, sometimes there’s a lot of overlap when it comes to a police family doing police things, which is the best thing about both of these shows.

Boston Blue might do that, thanks to Sean and Jonah being the rookies that they are.

Danny Being in Boston Might Not Be So Great for Sean

Although Sean appreciates having another Reagan in town and is hungry for that family feeling, he and Danny keep butting heads, and it’s likely to happen again.

Sean hasn’t been happy with Danny constantly advising him, especially since Danny often tells him that he’s doing something wrong.

That problem may get worse on Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 4.

Danny and Lena will investigate the murder of a shop owner, and judging from some of the photos, neither of them is happy with the way Jonah and Sean handle themselves during this case.

Of course, this could be about a different case altogether since Sean and Jonah often have their own storyline.

In the meantime, Sarah will deal with a hostage situation, while Mae will handle a legal dispute. I’m glad that Boston Blue is starting to have as many storylines per episode as Blue Bloods used to!
