Blue Bloods fans are gearing up for the final episodes of the hit CBS series to air this fall, but star Abigail Hawk has revealed that behind the scenes, there are just three episodes left to film.
“It’s starting to feel very real, we’re three episodes away from finishing,” Abigail told the Think Big With Michael Zellner podcast. “CBS has made the announcement that despite our pleas, the pleas of the cast, the pleas of the fans, the show is not going to [be renewed], but of course hope never dies, it’s going to be around forever and you never know but I think it’s a great dose of reality when it’s over. So I’m expecting bad things but after the bad things, good things will come.”
However, Abigail stressed that “what people are holding on to is that another network will see the value” in the show and pick it up for future seasons.
“It would be interesting to see what would happen if we were in a more prime spot,” she added. “The fact that we’ve taken the Friday night slot at 10 p.m. and made it a must-watch time slot is something.”
CBS’s hit police procedural drama Blue Bloods will end in the fall of 2024 with its 15th season. The 14th season will premiere on Friday, May 17. Tom Selleck, 79, has played New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show debuted in 2010 and has seen the show become one of the network’s most consistent success stories in both ratings and recognition. Tom has been one of the most outspoken critics of CBS’s decision.
“We’re the third-highest scripted show on the air. We’re winning the night. All the actors want to come back. And I can tell you this: We’re not sliding off a cliff. We’re doing great shows and we’re still holding our own. So, I don’t know!” he told CBS News.
In an interview with TV Insider, he continued: “CBS is going to see a lot of people who aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. The show is more popular than ever, and I think [the numbers] will increase as interest increases this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas.”
The series follows Tom’s Frank, the patriarch of the Reagan clan, a multigenerational family of cops. His eldest son Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) is a seasoned detective and Iraq War veteran who occasionally uses questionable tactics to solve cases, while his daughter Erin (Bridget Moynahon) is an assistant district attorney.
A recent graduate of Harvard Law School, Jamie (Will Estes) is the youngest member and “golden boy” of the family, who gave up a lucrative future in law to continue the family’s tradition of being a cop.
Abigail plays Detective Abigail Baker, a member of the Sheriff’s Department who serves as Frank’s primary assistant. She has appeared in nearly every episode of the show’s 14-year run.
