Warner Bros. Discovery Renames Six HBO and Cinemax Channels
Warner Bros. Discovery has officially rebranded six of its U.S. linear television channels in a move designed to simplify and better align each network with its programming. The changes took effect on September 4, 2025.
New Channel Names
-
HBO2 → HBO Hits
-
HBO Signature → HBO Drama
-
HBO Zone → HBO Movies
-
MoreMAX → Cinemax Hits
-
ActionMAX → Cinemax Action
-
5starMAX → Cinemax Classics
These updated names are already visible across cable providers and on the HBO Max app, where viewers can access live HBO programming under the “Channels” section.
The Purpose Behind the Change
The rebrand was introduced to make the lineup easier for audiences to navigate while providing clearer guidance on what type of programming each channel delivers.
This shift follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s earlier decision this year to restore the “HBO Max” name to its streaming service after briefly using “Max.”
At the company’s upfront presentation, CEO David Zaslav emphasized HBO’s long-standing reputation for premium television, citing iconic series such as The Sopranos and Game of Thrones. He noted that leaning on HBO’s legacy is a key strategy for strengthening the brand and expanding future growth.
