Opening Elegancia feels like a full-circle moment for Wilmer Valderrama. The NCIS actor says his passion for hospitality and cultural storytelling comes together in his new Washington, D.C. restaurant, which opened this week in Union Market’s La Cosecha.
One dish, in particular, captures that mission. Valderrama says tasting the sancocho prepared by Chef Jova Urriola brought him to tears and reminded him of his mother and family traditions. The soup, served free at the end of the night, reflects what Valderrama calls the healing power of food.
Co-owned with Daniella Senior, Elegancia features a menu inspired by Latin America, including tamales, empanadas, ceviche, and creative cocktails. While juggling filming NCIS and raising two young children, Valderrama says the restaurant represents a return to one of his deepest passions — bringing people together around the table.
