Hanako Greensmith, who plays Violet Mikami on Chicago Fire, recently opened up about the complex dynamic between her character and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) as they head into season 13. According to Greensmith, Violet is still grappling with guilt and regret over Carver’s sudden departure at the end of season 12, where she failed to express her true feelings before he left Firehouse 51.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Greensmith, 27, hinted that Violet’s journey in season 13 will focus on her deciding whether she’s ready to confront those feelings. “I think there’s a lot she didn’t say that she wished she had,” Greensmith revealed.
Fans will also discover why Carver left so abruptly and what he’s been dealing with during his absence. In the season 12 finale, Carver was shaken by a call involving suspected abuse, which triggered his own painful childhood memories of being burned by his older brother. His confrontation with a suspect led to him taking a break from his duties. Violet, who had been growing closer to him, was left stunned by his sudden exit, especially because she hadn’t fully expressed her emotions toward him.
Greensmith teased that when Carver returns about six weeks later, their reunion will be anything but smooth. “It’s going to be a bit of a dance,” she shared, describing their relationship as a “push and pull” dynamic that will keep fans on edge. Both characters will be navigating new situations—sometimes together, sometimes apart—making for a tense and unpredictable storyline this season.
