Guy Gansert’s Big Career Move: How His General Hospital Role Could Lead to The Golden Bachelor Season 2

The Golden Bachelorette runner-up Guy Gansert has announced that he’ll be joining the cast of the long-running soap opera General Hospital after retiring from his real-life job as an ER doctor. During The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Guy fell in love with leading lady Joan Vassos, but she broke up with him before he could meet her family because she knew that her heart belonged to Chock Chapple. Since then, there’s been much speculation that Guy could be the star of The Golden Bachelor season 2.

Guy revealed that he retired from his career as an ER doctor in Reno, Nevada at age 66 after 35 years on the job, and he’s now going to make a guest appearance on General Hospital on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

In an interview with People, Guy revealed that he retired from his career as an ER doctor in Reno, Nevada at age 66 after 35 years on the job, and he’s now going to make a guest appearance on General Hospital on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Guy will play the role of wildlife journalist Jeffrey Beckett, and interact with both Cynthia Watros’ character of Nina Reeves, and Maura West as Ava Jerome.

Guy shared that he was cast in the role after he jokingly told one of the Bachelor franchise producers that he’d like a chance to appear on General Hospital, which he called “such a well-respected long-running series.” Guy used to watch the soap opera in college, so, in November, at The Golden Bachelorette finale, he asked the producer for the opportunity to guest star on it.

Guy revealed, “Having had absolutely no acting experience, I said [it] in — kinda — jest. Within a couple of weeks, I received an email Zoom invitation with [executive producer] Frank Valentini and [Vice President, Production & Administration, ABC Daytime, Disney ABC Television Group] Dominick Nuzzi. After a 30-minute Zoom interview, they loved the idea of a real ER doctor who made it to the final two of The Golden Bachelorette. A month later, I received an offer to be on a small one-day episode.”

Guy said that he “responded in the affirmative immediately” to the General Hospital offer. He explained, “Even though I was ecstatic over being a cast member on The Golden Bachelorette, this was an exciting opportunity to actually act and be a part of an iconic show. This is all happening after deciding to hang up my stethoscope and retire after 35 years.”

Guy added that appearing on General Hospital was “surreal” for him. He shared, “The producers, directors, actresses were so incredibly kind and supportive and put me at ease. They were all welcoming. There was definitely a sense of family amongst all staff. It was one of the most fun things I have done. They made me feel special.”

Guy also stated that he thinks that his fellow Golden Bachelorette contestants will be happy for him to have the opportunity to appear on General Hospital. He said, “The relationships between the men definitely created bromances. Everyone only wants each other to succeed. At our golden years, we only want each other to be happy. They might be surprised that I received such an incredible compliment to be asked to be a one-day cast member of General Hospital, but I believe everyone will be phenomenally supportive.”

Guy also hopes to return to General Hospital in the future. He shared, “Before I went on the show, I was happy just to have one chance to see what it is like behind the scenes. Now, I had so much fun and I feel like I could take being comfortable in front of a camera to a more relaxed and excellent level. GH, just give me one more chance!”

Our Take On Guy Gansert Guest Starring On General Hospital
It Will Be Fun To See Guy’s Acting Debut

As a lifelong fan of General Hospital, I always delight in seeing guest stars on the show. I enjoyed watching Guy on The Golden Bachelorette, and he definitely has leading man qualities. He’s handsome, successful, intelligent, and charming, which are all of the qualities that are important for a soap opera leading man. It’ll be intriguing to see if Guy can transfer those real-life qualities to his new General Hospital character.

On General Hospital, Guy will be sharing scenes with the powerhouse actresses Cynthia Watros and Maura West, so hopefully they’ll help to bring out the best in him as a new actor. General Hospital is lucky to have a guy like Guy on the show, even if it’s only for one episode.
