Guy Gansert, the runner-up from The Golden Bachelorette, recently opened up about his heartbreak after being eliminated by Joan Vassos. In a candid interview on the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast, Guy revealed that he was fully prepared to propose to Joan, having made up his mind that she was “the one” for him.
According to Guy, his pivotal moment came after the Fantasy Suite date. “After that night, I was sold on Joan,” Guy shared. “We talked about everything, covered all the important adult variables. I felt great. I was ready to do this.” He even journaled about his decision, feeling confident that he was ready to get down on one knee and ask for Joan’s hand in marriage.
Guy also reflected on his excitement about meeting Joan’s children, a moment he believed would solidify his place in her life. “I was excited to meet her kids and get their blessing,” he said. “I was convinced we had so many shared values that this was going to work.” Unfortunately, he never had the chance to make that connection, as Joan eliminated him before they could meet her family.
Looking back on his elimination, Guy recalled how shocked he was when Joan arrived at his door in Bora Bora. “I was so happy to see her. I thought maybe she had changed her mind,” he said. He had hoped she would tell him, “You’re my guy, and I’m going to let the other guy go.” But when Joan explained that her heart belonged to someone else, Guy’s world came crashing down. “In that moment, I was devastated. I was convinced I was the one, and 30 minutes later, it was all over,” he admitted.
Guy, known for being an emotional person, described the breakup as one of the hardest moments of his life. “I sobbed for minutes. It wasn’t just 10 seconds; I couldn’t stop,” he said. The pain of believing he was about to propose, only to face rejection, was overwhelming. However, Guy also expressed his admiration for Joan, saying, “I absolutely love her. I will always love Joan, but I can’t be ‘in love’ with her.”
Despite the heartbreak, Guy reassured Joan that he would be okay. “I didn’t want her to feel bad,” he shared. “We’ve all been through difficult things, and I knew I would get through it.” While the healing process has been tough, Guy is optimistic about his future and has maintained a friendly relationship with Joan and Chock Chapple, the man Joan ultimately chose.
Guy’s emotional journey on The Golden Bachelorette has led to speculation that he could be the next lead on The Golden Bachelor, a role Joan herself suggested. Meanwhile, Joan and Chock are focusing on their future, making plans to spend the holidays with Joan’s family in Maryland before apartment hunting in New York City. The couple also has exciting travel plans for 2025, including international trips and a possible televised wedding in late 2025 or early 2026.
